Do I need to prep my car for Window Tints?
Do I need to prep my car for Window Tints?
Never tinted or seen someone tint windows and this is probably the best investment for Cali summers. Decided on 15%-20% all around.
On my to do list:
-Wash car
-Clean windows with rubbing alcohol
Im thinking of removing all the door panels so its easier for them to work around the glass. Is this necessary?

What product are they installing? If it's any reputable shop they should prep the windows before install. You shouldn't have to do anything.
FWIW, I think I paid around $220 for LLumar on five windows. You don't want to get tint that won't last as long as your ownership.

yea i was wondering about that too. I hear theres different "brands" of tint or something? Anything i should stay away from? where can i read up on them?
Im looking for a charcoal/black color. I dont like that black/purple **** i see on most cars.

As mentioned before, if its a good place then they will clean the windows themselves and remove the door panels. Normally its around $200 but you can pay around $150 for a good job if you shop around. Just make sure its a reputable place (do forum searching) and they should offer a warranty of at least a couple years all the way to lifetime.
Good luck on finding a place and be sure to post pics of the final product!

Hmm been watching some How-to videos on youtube, doesn't seem that hard. Anyone have success attempting to tint their windows for the first time? Maybe i can use the 80$ to buy some quality film and do it myself.

Just got tints for my Civic yesterday actually. Paid $199 and they used Llumar 35%.
I did clean my windows before taking it to them just for peace of mind. I did the same before I got my Max tinted 5 years ago.
Here's 3 good brands to look for.

like everybody else here said they should clean them themselves but if you want to do it yourself to make sure soapy water and a razor blade will do the trick. no need to remove you door panels either any good tinter can do it with them on
It's actually not too hard. My girlfriend and I (now my wife) did my Daytona in a car wash bay while it was raining. It looked good for yrs and I didn't get streaks or hazing that you see on some jobs. The key I found was to make sure you had plenty of soapy water and that you pre-cut the tint to size.
Had my windows tinted on a galant a few years back, (forgot the place.) anyway, it came out horrible. A purplish film, that had bubbles and did not pass inspection, although I told the person I wanted legal tints. Paid 125$ before shopping around and wasted my money. Lesson learned.
Anyone heard of Mr. Tint? Gonna do some business with them once i get some extra cash. He quoted me 150$ for 28% all around and(35% is legal here in MA, gonna do a tad darker.) limo on the sunroof. Dosent seem that bad and I hear it is a reputable place to get windows done here in the New England area. Anyone else have any experience with them?

I had my 09 Maxima done last week for $150. They used Llumar 20% and said it has a lifetime warranty. I was told the Llumar has a metalic base. The guy who did the tinting said you should use a tint with a metalic or ceramic base. I think maybe those don't bubble as easily. I don't know if that's the reason, or not.
If you don't already know, I was told not to clean the tint with glass cleaner that contains amonia. Apparently, it turns the tint purple.

Check out Rich's Tint Shoppe in Walnut, (626) 913-3718. I've personally done 4 cars in the last 5-6 years and have referred about 5 family members in that same span with no problems to report. He charges about $150 and does great work. You have to call to make an appointment. He has a small bay next to a car wash and this is all he does. I personally prefer going to him rather than an audio shop because you only have him that actually works on your car and he is trustworthy.

150 bucks is not that bad. I'm thinking of having tint on my ride as well. I'll check that one out.
