I got to race my friends 87 Stang 5.0 ...
So i got to race my friends 87 Stang 5.0 w/ intake, pulleys, and two flo-masters (not catback). BTW-he is 5spd. We got to race a total of 3 times. These races took place on Columbia Turnpike. I had one other person in my car and he had no passengers but i will note i had about 1/8 tank left though.
The first race was a pull from 30mph. He got the jump on me and i spun 1st to 2nd bad (yes in a auto). He has about a half car lead and by 80mph i actually pulled back side by side and we shut it down there.
The second race was from 60mph and up to 100mph. At this point i think i had him between his 2nd to 3rd shift so this gave me advantage. So at 60mph we both dropped it and off we went. The cool thing was that i actually started to pull away from him for a split sec. I pulled about car and a half and stayed that way up to 100mph.
The last race was from 40mph to about 70mph. At this speed we were both at the bottom of our 2nd gear and just floored it, once again i pulled away SLOWLY. We went from side by side to me being ahead by 2 cars. I could see him slowly drifting back.
All i had to say was that my car was running like a champ last night. If i could only say this more often though.
The good thing was, he even admitted to getting beat to my auto. He had no excuse either. He told me it was fun and a great race but he planned on walkin me when he sticks in his new gears.

Nice. Washington DC Max and I ran across a modded 5spd one the other night, and even off the line we managed to beat him, right until he sprayed. On the other hand, he didn't lay any rubber down like we did, so he might have been going easy, but it still took him a bit to pass us even on the bottle. I wasn't too impressed, but those things are easy and cheap to mod so you never know what you're really up against when you see one. At first I thought he was s/c due to the extra gauges, but just afterwards I managed to get alongside him and ask, and he said he had nitrous. Oh well, can't win them all...

Power? Its called damp weather and vb mod. THe stang is running 14.3? You really think? Too bad those years they ran low 15's to high 14s stock depending on driver. Too bad he ran 15.3 himself. If i WAS to spray, he would have gotten walked more.

Those early 5.0 Stangs aren't that fast. It also depends on the driver like Sinclair said. I know this from experience. Before my SC, I raced a few, I beat a few, I lost to a few. So, it's not hard to believe. You also have to realize that loud Stangs doesn't always mean fast Stangs. Matt ran against a 4.6L Stang that didn't sound loud at all, excluding his SC. Much later, he found out the Stang run 12s. A good sleeper Stang that was.

So if your friend is getting 15.3 with all those mods, he's a really bad driver. Why do you want to spray when you know your opponent isn't? Do you like to have an unfair advantage when racing, otherwise known as cheating?

I think someone is bitter because they got spanked by a Toyota Corolla with nitrous...

I ran a COBRA look alike Friday night, little did I know it was a friend with one of his friends cars. It had SVO intake uppper and lower, Full open exhaust, pulleys, alot of stuff done, he was just naming it off to me. From 0-90 he I was at his rear bumper, thats it. Now thats embarrasing.

And wiht 140k miles on his stock motor, it would make sense to me as well.
