I am from Cleveland and I hate driving in the snow. The original tires that came with my car were terrible, I would be sliding all over the road when there was just a light dusting of snow. Last winter I bought some Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 (I think that's the full title) and I couldn't be happier! I think a set of snow tires is necessary for winter driving, especially when you have to drive a lot (work and school were about 30 miles away, so I was on the highway 7 days a week).
I am happy that I don't have to make that commute daily anymore, still got the snow tires though.

While I don't live in the snow belt (I used to), we still get snow here and the biggest thing you have to worry about is the horrible Jersey drivers.
My plan is to drive my old beater Jeep whenever it snows and leave the Max parked.
And then get it washed every Monday at lunch at a soft cloth place that has half price for Men on Mondays. $5 for a total wash and dry. Not as good as I may do, but better than nothing.

I see holes for the studs, but no studs? They leave em out or something?
I've never had any issues driving in the snow with my car.
FWD + M&S Rated tires = No issues.
Now if I were living up in VT where they have 5 seasons and more unpaved roads then any other state in the USA, then I'd have a set of dedicated snows.
Oh and by the way, their 5th season is called MUD SEASON.

thanks.. we'll get to try them out in January... didnt' want to wait to order and have them out of stock until next winter..
should be an interesting drive home on the stock SE summer only wheels and tires though.. but that's why we are taking the southern route

195 60 15 is way too short for the 4th gen maxima otherwise I would have used the 185 65 15s we have in blizzaks already mounted on 4x114.3 nissan rims (*but opted to just list them on CL instead)
and here in MN its for 6 months sometimes.
By short do you mean wide? Should be fine only .7 inches narrower. Stock I have 215's on mine so not too worried.
Check the details on this site to see what I mean:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Stock size is 205 65 15 and your going to use 195 60 15? If you want to use 195 width, you should at least have gotten a 195 70 15 (not 60) to be closer to proper ride height!
Meanwhile, if you had bought a 195 70 15 instead, the ride height is 25.7" instead of 25.5" stock which is much more acceptable.
You are going to not only have your speedo off BUT it's over an inch ride height difference (not good)
Stock ride height is 25.5" tall and the tire you got (when new) is 24.2" tall (more than an inch of height difference)!!!
I would never use a 195 60 15 on my Maxima when it calls for 205 65 15 for many reasons. (including that your odo will be off and say more miles than you put on the car btw)

Yea. Never had winter tires. In Columbus it actually wasnt that bad considering they would dump a pile of salt on everything lol. But I moved to Indianapolis for school in August. And even in the summertime these fools couldnt drive. So i KNOW winter is gonna be terrible.
being from Northern Alberta i live for winter
i just use all-seasons, bought a new set a few months ago (i had a set of all-seasons that were only like 2 years old until the last set, and they were worn and one had a bad leak and i never burn rubber
) when these all-seasons wear out i'll be switching to Falken's for summer and Toyo Winter's

I cant wait! i got on the local nissan board to see what snow tires to buy for the max and ended up buying and older 5 speed Subaru Legacy someone was helping their neighbor sell instead, Awd with limited slip diffs and studded snow tires FTW!
I did put my stock rims on the max though so i dont end up bending one of my 350z rims

yea, it snows a lot... our state motto is greatest snow on earth.
Because salt lake sits on the boundary of the basin and rocky mountain regions. the air from the pacific comes across the basin gets compressed against the mountains and dumps all its moisture. The ski resorts get about 700" a year and the valley gets about 60" the benches where i live in between the valley and city probably get somewhere between 80-100" a year

I'm not a huge fan of steelies either but i like the black look so i took my stock rims and painted them matte black this fall. They turned out really cool but the prep work took forever. I'll post up some pictures later
well, the maxima we bought in Phoenix has newer summer only tires (summer performance tires) so I wasn't about to attempt chicagoland winter on summer only tires... lol PLUS it was easier/cheaper to just buy a set of 15" 95 Maxima SE wheels for these smaller snow tires to go on (and save the 16s for summer)
I have noticed some really good deals on wheels and tires around here on places like craigslist. like $125 for a set of nearly new 16" bridgestone studded winter tires and a set of 17" 350z wheels with good goodyear all season tires on them for $250. This is the route i will probably go to get snow tires for the max next year
Yeah put the sawblades back on, put stabil in the tank, parked her in the garage front-in, connected the battery tender, put on the cover and put her into hibernation. Also put new Pirelli Scorpions on the Frontier, started up the snowblower, and now I'm ready.
My car came with a brand new set of nokian winter tires and I drove them all summer... now I am finally feeling the benefit of these things and they are fantastic.
(ABS+TC)*Winter Tires= FTW
My car is unstoppable and I was driving through 2feet of snow this weekend!

now the challenge is trying to find out what size rim will fit under my girls 06 GTP,.. it comes with 18's factory,.. and i find it hard to believe that 16's will fit over the calipers up front.. hmmm...

Just swapped over to my stockies...with kuhmos, softened the illuminas, and swapped the grille. I am set.
Let the ltb plowing begin.
I definately see snow and make trips up to the mountains frequently but I just dont know if its worth it to acutally get snow tires because of all the non snow conditions I see during the cold months.
I drive with my stock wheels/all season tires from Late Oct ~ Early May. I am wondering how much of benefit it woudl be to have actual winter tires.

My '01 has Nokian WRX tires on it. Noisy when on dry pavement, but traction is phenomenal on snow and ice, even the wet sloppy stuff. They're hard to get down in VA, but in western Canada you see them once in a while.
