Exhaust leak and Gas Mileage

Would a potential Exhaust Leak effect gas mileage in anyway?

Thanks.

I believe not, because unless their was blockage fuel consumption should not be affect. Maybe?

But a exhaust leak might be bad for your health

I can confirm this. Both my exhaust manifolds had some type of leak. After fixing a bad odometer that wasn't working for 2 years turned out that I was getting around 15 mpg hwy. I replaced the front exhaust manifold, gasket and studs and welded a crack on the rear exhaust manifold along with changing the rear manifold gasket and studs. I'm getting 21 mpg now, much better but still low. Then I found out that the rear manifold is warped (thank you seafoam for letting me know) so now I gotta save up for that.

The exhaust system is a pressurized system, to a certain extent. So when you have a leak, the exhaust would not go where it's supposed to, which is thru the catalytic convertor, and out tailpipe. And the engine is tuned and made to run so the exhaust goes out thru the convertor and tailpipe. The convertor cleans the gases, and the tailpipe is merely to have the exhaust exit not directly underneath the car.

Thanks all. I think its the flex pipe, so that would be right after the O2 Sensor.
