I have 225/50-16

My speedometer reads 1-2 mph high depending on what speed I am going. It is un-noticable and doesn't bother me at all.

Here you go....

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
check that out

If your stock size is 215/55/16 (as it is on 97-99 SEs), and you put 225/50/16 tires on same rims, when your speedo is reading 60 mph, you are actually going 58.9 mph.... it's 1.8% too fast.....

Ok, then that means I have around an extra 1,100 miles registered on my car that shouldn't be there. But that is only if that size tire was on from day one (which isn't the case sense OEM is 215/55/16). So maybe I have an extra umm 700 miles on it???

Ok, how do I roll back my odometer???

you shouldn't put widers tires on your 16" rims then what's recomended by the factory, yeah I know that you can and it may look better (I think it does) but you actually decrease your performance because the sidewall roll just kills you when you cornering hard, sad but true

OK smart guy, did you notice any sidewall roll on my car? I run 225/55-16 in case you don't remember.

Andy,

I ran 225/50/26 this season for track and autocross events. I discovered Konstantin is right under these circumstances, but you may not notice on the street. Next season, I'm going back to 215's.

Depends on what the aspect ratios are. See above for the link to the size calculator
