Value of car with engine replaced?

How can I get a value on a car that has had it's engine replaced? Is it based on the current engines mileage?

I'm looking at one on craigslist and wondering if the price is good or not.

Should I even worry about buying with a replaced engine? Opinions?

if it was properly done by the dealer with proper reciepts of work, I would not mind one bit buying the car but only if the dealer installed a brand new motor, not a used one (which Im sure they dont do anyway). Stay away from "junkyard" swaps.

Also, my engine was replaced by nissan in 2007 with a brand new 0-mile engine and I have all the reciepts of that work done. I look at it a plus because its basically like a brand new car.

edit: As far as value, not sure about that. If it was a dealer replaced engine id say it would be whatever blue book value is. If it was a junkyard swap, I would just stay away

Well I guess when you put it like that it's sound pretty good. According to the ad the swap was done at the Nissan dealership. As for the reciepts, I'm not sure but I'll check.

only 40k on the engine but 170k on everything else that you might need to replace (struts, A/C, alternator, power steering components, bushings, cooling system, seats, brake system, etc)

If you are handy and can take care of the things i listed as they come then you are in pretty good shape. If you are going to use the dealer or a shop to get stuff fixed it might get pricy as little things start adding up.

If i were you i would use what i said above to talk the seller down. I wouldn't be overly concerned about having a new engine as long as a nissan tech really did install it but there really are a lot of reasons to consider the true milage of the body

Depends if its an si or not. If you replaced it with another d series motor then maybe 500$. If you swapped another b16 and it was done right then you could gain 1000$ on your resale

I paid $300 more than that for a 2002 6speed hlsd that has NOT had the motor replaced. I would say talk him down a lot. whenever someone replaces things and then says it is worth more than the blue book is mistaken. they have just taken it to the level that the bluebook says it should be worth. just because it cost them a lot to keep it at a nice level doesnt mean it is now worth more.
