Warranty Problems... Be careful... :( Long

Okay, last weekend my transmission started slipping, jumping up 2-3k while driving. I wasn't using NOS or racing, it's been raining here, and I have the transgo VB mod and a tranny cooler, both installed at 40k. So anyway, I take the car into Nissan on Monday, I have 61800 miles on my Max right now, just past the Nissan warranty, but still in my extended warranty. They take out the tranny pan and find a bunch of brass shavings, and say the tranny needs to be replaced. So they contact my warranty company, who comes out and looks at it, then they say they need my 30k and 60k service records or they won't replace the tranny. Now, like a lot of other people on this board, I do 99% of my car work myself, and I am a pretty good mechanic. I told them I changed the tranny fluid at 40k and again at 50k, and they said they needed proof. Now I did keep my reciepts, though they didn't have any milage proof on them, they said they needed somthing from a shop. So they say they will call me back when they get the inspectors report on my tranny. A little while later, the Nissan tech calls me back and says they told him they were not going to replace the tranny for me, and then he told them I had deffinetly changed the fluid recently (He didn't know if I had or hadn't!) and so they agreed at that point to replace the tranny. I should have my car back by next friday. The warranty company was just trying to worm there way out of providing me coverage, I paid an extra $1400 for the warranty, and the new tranny will cost them over $3000 with labor. I took off any mods that might give away anything on my car, so they had no other reason to deny me coverage. Just a warning to all those who do there own work on there cars, if your cars under warranty, they may want proof, more than your reciepts or words...

And I know you didn't take off your modded VB, so you need to buy that again...that sucks, hope it works out Matt.

Yes, I have an extended warranty. I can get reciepts for an oil change, no problem, but I don't want to do that, I'd rather keep it all legal, I did change the oil, they just didn't believe me. Casey, ya, no more VB mod, but it was just the transgo, I was planning on going to Don's soon anyway, but I don't think this tranny will be in the car come summer anyway...

Yeah, I figured with all the other mods I have on my car, might as well, I don't think the auto will hold much more without going level 10, and for that price, might as well go for the conversion, I still miss my 96 5spd...

This is another reason why having your tranny oil and motor oil analyzed every year or so through Blackstone is important.

I'm glad you weren't denied the warranty work.
