acid washing the car?

just got my car back from the body shop after the rear ender repair. the guy @ the body shop said to get my car "acid washed" and he recommended a car wash place the automatically does them on any white car they get.

he says it kind of "bleaches" the white cars to keep them white and prevent the clear coats from "turning yellow" which my car may be doing.

are there any solutions/products i can use at home, so i can do it myself? i just hate thinking about taking my car to a "car wash"....

You'll take the finish right off the car if you acid wash or bleach it clean. Do the 3 step process. Use a clay bar Mothers makes a great one, then get Mequires Step 2 polish and step 3 wax. It's going to take you a while to do but you wind up with a silky soft clean high gloss finish that will last a while. Maintain it by waxing (step 3) ever 3 or 4 weeks.

what about buffing?

i think i'll take your suggestion. i do have a clay bar i haven't used and i wax my car about 1 to 2 times a month and wash my car about every 1 - 2 weeks.

when i got the car back from the bodyshop, the area they painted is smooth, but the other areas are now kind of "rough", like a fine mist of clear got over the car and dried. the guy at the the bodyshop recommended a place to get my car buffed, and he'd pick up the tab... should i just do this myself? i have a buffer, but i don't know what kind of solutions/products to use to get the roughness out without damaging the clear.

Maybe my knowledge is incomplete on this subject, but I thought one should wait at least a couple weeks to let your new paint cure before you go through a car wash, wax it, or even hit it with a "jet spray" from a garden hose. Good luck.

i think i'll wait for any harsh washing. i'd still like to do the buffing since it's in areas that were not painted.
