ALL MECHANIC (SWAP)

ok i need some help here. when you tell the customer you are doing a complete swap, what is it they are getting. I want to know if I can get something in writing from a shop or shops that does swaps.
Need this for legal use

1 what condition should the car be in after swap is done (should it be running correctly)

is this for the RB26?

you should go over it first of course, but it should be insinuated that the engine will be running and the car running in as good/better condition as it came in

okay. so lemme get this straight; you took the car to a shop, said "do an engine swap", they said "okay"
they removed the vq engine/transaxle, and put in an rb engine/transmission.
now the car won't drive.
so:
1) does the engine run, now?
2a) did you shop around before choosing this shop?
2b) why did you chose this shop?
3) did you specify putting in [whatever] rear axle to go with it?
4) did you supply the parts, or did they buy them?
5) did they ask what the goal was, or just say "okay"

I am not a shop, just asking clarifying questions
When I hear "engine swap" I think "they swapped the engine," I ask "did they swap transmissions, or make an adapter to fit? did they do a drivetrain swap or just swap the engines?"
if you had specified a "drivetrain swap", you may not be in such a predicament.

Come on guys

Its pretty reasonable that if you go to a mechanic and say you want an engine swap (and supply engine + trans + everything else) that the result you are expecting is a running car with the swapped in engine.

How good should it run? Doesn't have to be super tuned and tweaked but should be able to idle properly, drive under normal conditions.

Shouldn't come down to the word of the request when the intent was obvious

Was the engine that was being installed running properly?
Unless it was driven to the shop, neither the supplier of the engine, nor the installer, knows.

Sounds like you paid them to install the engine you brought them, and they did. Just like any other part you bring yourself to a mechanic, the warranty for the engine is with the supplier....and that's you.

A drive in, drive out engine swap, with engine supplied by the installer, is a completely different matter.

But that's not what you did.

You've got a point there re:the engine condition - if you could maybe prove the engine was in good state (compression test, etc)?
