Immobilizer locked up/not working

So a couple days a go I drove my car home parked it in the drive way and went to bed. the next day I got up to go to work and the car would start then die, so I tried again...and again and again and same thing then it wouldnt even start any more.

So I scanned it and got the codes P1610 and P1612 a NATS malfunction. so I cleared the codes but of coarse my immobilizer is still locked up.

So I had my buddy who is literally one of the best locksmiths in the state, come out to reprogram my keys. but the computer wouldnt let him in he had the by pass code and it wouldnt let him in....he has used that code with out fail for all the Maximas he has done.... He knows what hes talking about when it comes to this stuff the local Nissan dealer calls him in when they cant get something. He called his buddy who is the best locksmith in the state and the two of them couldnt get it. He said that even if the immobilizer is "locked" he can hack it and he couldnt.

so he is asking online what to do and I am wondering if this has happened to any one? and.....any body have a BCM for a 2002 Nissan Maxima 6spd.

Thank you
Jake

Never heard or read of this. I wonder if unplugging the battery over night to re-set the ECU and other electronics in the car would help?

Yeah I was just gunna funny...

My buddy who worked on it checked one of his locksmith forums and a guy had the exact same situation so he unplugged his BCM for 1hr (the reset time) and programmed the keys that worked for two weeks and he needed to just get a new one so I am gunna get a new one and my buddy will reprogram it for me.

Used they are $80-$90 so I will just get one of them. as far as my buddy knows they are just plug and play... heard any thing diff?

I hope is to swap in a BCM from a 02 6spd (if I dont need a matching BCM please let me know) and hope he can just programm the keys cause if the computers need to be reprogrammed then I have to tow it to Nissan.....boo

Wish me luck

Been there, was my first problem with my car back in 06. I didn't know what to do at that time so I had the dealership replace it for me. Good luck swapping a BCM and reprogramming the keys. Hope it works out for you, wish I tried that instead of getting done up the rear by the stealership.

WOW dude!! The update on my car is My buddy found out from his locksmith forum that the Immobilizer was broken so I called nissan and found what cars have the same one and got one from a 02 Altima from Pams Auto a place in St.Cloud, mn(i live 1.5hrs from there) I had my buddy come out and reprogram it and that was that it works now. I hope that was the fix and thats it.

Total Cost
$80-Immobilizer (02-03 doesnt have a BCM all the functions are separate)
$60-my buddy

so grand total of $140 YAY!

Thank you
Jake

Awesome. I wish I was more FSM/forum inclined back then. I could've been $300-400 richer.

I endded up calling Nissan giving them my vin and asking what cars i could get my Immobilizer out of and then called a local yard and got one from a 02 Altima. it was litterally 3 screws and a bolt....sorry it was easy.

P1610 P1612

Hi, I have a similar problem. After driving previous day, my 2001 Maxima won't start, starter rotates engine but it does not start. I pulled codes P1610 and P1612 (both pending).
If I put key in engine run mode without trying to start, the security LED gets solid red in about 5 seconds.
Can anyone suggest me a cheaper (than dealer) way to fix?
If immobilizer is bad, does a replacement need to be programmed with the keys or immobilizer just sends the key code to ECM so no reprogramming is needed?

i as well had a problem a week after bringing my sentra into nissan for service (changed radiator, thermometer, oil change). my car would start, then die instantly, then i try again and wouldn't start. i towed my car to nissan and the mechanic tried to start the car, but couldn't, the next morning, they called and said they started the car and drove it around and needed another day to find the problem. Next morning they called me and said my immobilizer has gone bad and needed all my spare keys to reporgram. cost me $411. done in 3 hours.
