Two in the pink, one in the stink! Gotta love the shocker, but I wouldn't advertise it on my car! Oh and there's those superstretched tires I mentioned... geez... whoever started that need some serious biznitch slapping!

Yeah those spinning hubcaps are the worst. Goes hand in hand with another fad that seriously needs to disappear, the "Gangsta Lean" Sheesh...

That was a euro trash thing. Lets you have a wider contact area using narrower tires. For racing classes that limit tire width. That, and for a more rigid side wall. Granted, this is simply the excuses I've heard by people doing it... Maybe they just couldn't afford wider tires after getting the bling-bling wheels?

Let's see. What about:
changing the interior trim to some neon color throughout the car
tint that shines with different colors of the rainbow in sunlight
oversize 3 spoke chrome blade rims
body kits that hand off the car
chrome pinstripes

Nothing is wrong with performance mods. There's just better platforms for that IMO. Maxima is about comfort and styling and solid performance in a unique sedan. I like to focus on making my car more unique. I'm more than happy with a stock VG 5sp.

Seriously, it's not a complex psychology.

I dont understand how you suppport making your sedan unique, but somehow dont see how modding the same type of sedan to make as much power as possible is not also unique?
Later on, I really began to respect how the car performed and then looked into modding it both for performance and cosmetics reasons.
Never did I envison that when I bought the car it would turn out to be a 300+whp vehicle which in my eyes makes it unique. Many people I meet and see it are often suprised that a Maxima could achieve these type of numbers.

Spray painting the hood and trunk flat black
a million autometer guages in your all stock n/a car
Turbo timer on a N/A car
Honda civics
Acura integras
Domo stickers and drift charms
Racing seatbelt shoulder pads for your stock belts lol
random bright neon body parts

I can think of many other sedans that offer better platforms in regards to comfort, styling and performance.

Exactly my point, it's not complex to go and buy bolt on upgrades for your car, that's what most people do. There are other avenues..
Because performance mods aren't unique, just like the guy above said, "it's what enthusiasts do". I think it shows a lack of vision when all anyone can think of to do is make the car a little faster. But again, there's nothing wrong with it, it just gets old.

Getting 300+whp from a FWD 4dr is however pretty unique.
Its definitely not something you see everyday. Running 11's and 12's in the 1/4 in this same type of car that normally runs high 14's to 15's is pretty unique as well and more then just a "little faster"
"it's what enthusiasts do",...What is that supposed to mean?
Anyone who likes and appreciates a certain thing is an enthusiast.
You dont have to install performance parts to be an automotive enthusiasts.
Also, FWIW the market for aftermarket parts for our cars is a bit limited. Some parts have to be modified and etc. to work with our applications. Those things take creativity and logic which therefore once again results in a more unique vehicle.
I will agree, that in the end it will always be a Maxima, and there will always be something faster out there. But that doesnt mean its not worth building it up to get the most out of it that you can. I for one love when I pull on a V8 sports car and have them come up to me later in amazement asking what all has been done to my car.

Engine swaps and bolt on performance mods are not a fad. They are a main staple of performance enthusiast, and have been since the 1920s. Did you know NASCAR originated with moonshine runners modifying they're cars to out run the Feds? I'd say 90 years is too long to be considered a fad.
