Looking at getting a used car, need some opinions!

Ok, I am looking to buy a jetta since my maxi is almost over 200k and im giving it to my son.

My question is:
Do you guys think it is worth it to spend an extra $1000 to $1500 on the 2007 GLI instead of the normal 2007 2.5 jetta? The GLI has the 2.0 turbocharged engine with 200 hp compared to the 2.5 liter 150 hp engine.

Also, do you think that the resale value would be better with a GLI or would they be about the same?

Appreciate the help. Thanks

GLI if you find one. Why not another Nissan?

Have a friend who got the GLI, and I would definitely think it worth it. If you were talking going from 200 to 250, or 220 to 270 hp, I might think otherwise... but going from 150 hp to 200 hp makes a pretty big difference.

And if the resale issue will depend on when you go to resell it. A 10 year old car will probably have minimal resale difference between trims, but you might be able to get a couple extra hundred regardless. A 5 year old car will most likely retain some resale difference between trims.

Going from a Max to a Jetta, you're going to be disappointed by the interior room IMHO...I test drove an 07 VW, think it was a Passat, and it was just tiny inside...like you'd be rubbin shoulders with your passenger up front. Came across the 07 Max and was sold immediately.

As to the choice, I would think the 200HP turbo would give you a lot more road confidence when faced with challenging circumstances...and I bet if driven moderately the Turbo will get near identical MPG's with the non Turbo, and should do considerably better then an 07 Max. Of course if you're rompin on it all day, mpg's are out the window...

What has you sold on any Jetta? I was under the impression that they are very expensive to maintain. I would rather stay Japanese, than go European, unless money is no cosideration which it appears not to be your case.

I worked as a VW/Audi tech for a couple years and I really like them. The turbos are nice, very little lag with the variable AR. watch out for oil in the intercooler, and piping. Definately install an oil catch can.

Don't remember which was which, but one had issues with oil consumption due to rings. Another had issues with oil coking, the "fix" was a different oil filter. It really needed an external oil cooler imo.

Egress was water cooled and plugged up with carbon or aping a leak and exhibited head gasket symptoms.

Purely a myth. I spent more fixing and maintaining my 2002 maxima than I've had to spend maintaining my BMW.

GLI man, those engines can withstand soooo much boost. If i remember right, the 2004 GLI had rods in the engine capable of withstanding 800hp. They are very nice cars, but they are small. The only downside.
