killed a tiburon...

Rolling home from the bar last night...(Pennant East in South Jersey)...a white hyundai tiburon flies by...so i pace him at about 75mph...i switch lanes and i hear him step on it...this was the first time i took my car past 100...got to about 120 or so and shut down...definately had more to go...only giving it about 3/4 of full throttle...suprised though the the tiburon did a good job keeping up...what are the specs on that thing...just wondering and thought i would share...

Pick up the February 2002 issue of SCC and read about a serious Tiburon. Guy runs a 10.6 quarter mile. The secret is that he has 2 engines, twin turbos, methanol-fuel, and two automatic transmissions. Think I'm making it up? Check it out in the mag.

I saw that too....it was so crazy. I have no idea how you would have two transmissions. Think about what would happen if one went in drive and the other in reverse.

Re: killed a tiburon...

Of course you will win, I could of looked in Car and Driver to reference specs and predicted that conclusion.

I believe stock 2k1 Tiburons have a puny 160hp, the same as my 90 GXE! Pretty sad that a 12 year old car has the same hp as a brand new one...Hyundai's are pretty weak unless you do some SERIOUS tuning. The build quality is crap, also, from what I have observed. A friend of mine has an Accent, and when she drove me to the movies (before I had my Max), only one of the doors worked, everything rattled, the stereo was super cruddy, and it did 0-60 in about an hour! (That last part was exaggerated, but you know what I mean!)

So...

I've taken a 5spd. Tiburon in my AUTO '96 GXE. And it was sad too because he couldn't even keep up. I was suprised (at the time knowing nothing about Tiburons), but he wasn't. The Maxima always pulls through.

I saw the new Tiburon at the Auto show and I have to say that it looked pretty nice. It had dual exhaust and a V6 for the first time I think, making 181hp. I think it might be coming with a 6spd, not sure though. It should be a nice all around ride. Hyundai has come a long way from the days of the Excel. I would never buy one, but still...

Sad when you consider that a new Tiburon has a $13K sticker? How much was your '90 GXE new? $20K? Maybe $22K? 160Hp for under 15 grand ain't too bad, man.

OK, an $11K car. I wouldn't expect much after a couple years, but hey 10 year warranty, so maybe it's worth it. Seriously, a Hyundai says "Hi, I make $10/Hr, and I drive a brand new car."

Flaming Hyundai

I believe that the Hyundai quality has seriously improved over the years..

The guy that was describing that girls ACCENT being a POS should recognize that the ACCENT is the cheapest car in north america... just look at the price... You get what you pay for..

And also be forewarned that the older hyundai sonatas used to used the DSM 2.0L motor that could be made to go fast very easily...

I drove the new Hyundai XG300 and it drove everybit as refined as my 99 Maxima SE...

Sure a TIburon loses to a maxima, and the same can be said for a civic.. ITs a different class..

But for one thing, hyundai took a big chance in releasing a car with unique styling and you got to respect them for it..

Final note, why do people flame cars from other manufacturers??
I thought that was arrogant honda attitude, so does this mean that some of you maxima drivers have the same dumbass honda (IS THE BEST) attitude??

Sure why not. Most cars can get up there along with plenty of trucks. Some jsut take longer.
