Old Topic, Relevent?

I was looking through some old threads on accelerator wire adjustment and it seems a lot of people actually do this? I've never heard of a throttle cable getting out of adjustment and affecting the gas pedal. Is this my ignorance or is this a periodic maintenance i'm missing?

Mine was very slack when I bought it so I tightened it up a little bit to take the slack out. It also took care of some hesitation that I had when taking off from a stop and made the gas pedal more sensitive (IE dont have to push it as far for it to rev). I think that just over time the cable just stretches out and needs to be tightened, especially if you're running a 14-15 year old ride like we are.

the manuals say to adjust it until the throttle drum just starts to move and then rotate the nut back 1.5-2 turns. My car is 15yrs old and the gas pedal isnt that loose...I just think this is nit picking a bit...

Dunno, but mine was very loose for some reason and it seems the take off more smoothly now and I definitely notice a better pedal response. I did mine while the car was running, tightened it til the RPMS went up, then backed it off a hair so it idled where it should. May be just the "placebo" effect but no negative effects on my end so I'm happy. But I would say, If anyone feels hesitation when taking off or accelerating in 2nd gear at low RPMS, start with this check cause I know it smothed mine out significantly.

There's nothing wrong with tightening the throttle cable if it feels slack, or if you have a bad flat spot on your accelerator.

I did when I owned my Trans Am. Made dip-in on the throttle feel much better.

I tightened mine up last night and just for the sake of bringing info back to this thread I played around with it some. I tightened it up as far as it would go and the pedal was very stiff and it took some getting used to so as not to jump off the line at every green light. However the surprising part was it still idled at the exact same RPM, about 500-750. I moved the nuts a good 1/2-1/4in and it didnt increase the idle, not one bit. Assuming it would probably stretch the cable out or maybe even the pedal wouldn't be able to hit the floor stop because of the tension on it, I loosened up the nuts and went about 3 turns backwards. Its weird. It seem to me that its impossible to tighten it to much and there is only play in it so the driver can get the gas pedal tension to the exact pressure he/she wants.

Yea it seems impossible to me to get loose but somehow it finds a way. I like my pedal to be tight but not so tight my car jumps as soon as I touch the gas. I think Ive found a happy medium(on my 4th gen) on my car which is about 10 turns from all the way tighted

What if you're right?? Has anyone checked BEFORE adjusting to see if they were short of WOT? Say you were flat to the floor, and still 1/8 from WOT?
