ok, question about gas mileage questions
It's come up many times. I am wondering why when someone posts "What gas mileage do you all get?"
The responses are, I get 375 to a tank, 400, 450, 300, etc. Why aren't the response more typically 21, 17, 30, 26, etc.? I rarely go more than 230 miles before I fill up again. I once went below the red and found the car took 17.5 gallons, meaning only 1 was left, even with the needle pinned to E.
Isn't one supposed to take the miles traveled and divide it by gallons consumed to get mpg? Not trying to be funny, just curious how come people answer the quest by saying 300-350 miles etc. How many gallons are consumed at that figure, the full 18.5? FYI my car has gotten 24.9 avgd over 56k so it's very difficult to sway it one way or another.

I get about 22.99 mpg (BTW I drive in bumper to bumper to and from work), since I never go below a quarter of a tank I usually don't think of it in miles per tank. Such as 375 or 400 MPTank. As of latest fill up I got to 299 miles on my trip meter and put in 13.004 of premium (sorry don't have the rating, probably 91 or 92), so if you take 299 miles / 13.004 g = 22.9912 mpg (please check my math). I'm sure most these guys/gals don't go below a quarter of a tank either, they are just extrapolating what they would get if they ran it all the way out. Hope that helps.

I usually get 18-19 for city (nyc, that's a lot of stop and go!) and about 28 for highway. But lately, I've been getting sh*t mileage. I just found out that my front tire pressure dropped like 5 psi causing me to get like 16.5mpg for city. I totally forgot about the drop in temperature which caused all my tires to drop pressure.
