ZOMG NO CLUTCH!!!

What would you do if your clutcl line dumped all your fluid on the ground and you were in the middle of nowhere? Well I found a good instructional video from a skilled kid. Please ignore the bashing comments made on you tube.
In the case of a dead clutch, you would place the trans in first, and then start the engine giving it a LITTLE gas.

Anyone who can't shift without using the clutch instinctively should not be driving a stick. I don't need to watch some dork tell me how to do it.

I've actually watched all his instructional videos. The kid knows how to drive a stick. I think the people bashing him in the comments just can't drive a stick.

While I agree with you, there are alot of people that don't beleive this is possible. I would hope everyone on the org would know this, thought I would share for those that might not. I've done this in my diesel rabbit with a broken clutch cable to get home from work.

interesting how I managed to do that with my 5th gen on my way to work when the damn clutch line busted...
bottom line point... you should know how to do that before you even learn how to drive with the clutch ... needless to say that the way he explained it is not really accurate, he did use the clutch to take off from a standing point... wondering if he knows how to start the car and move it without a clutch not just changing gears once you are moving... thats the important point here make the car move without using the clutch

Kinda hard with modern, manual transmission car's. The car will refuse to start unless you push the clutch.

I have a tendency to rev-match even with the clutch....I know my synchros will thank me and last a really long time.

yup, your clutch too. its also very satisfying when you get that seamless downshift. some people drive up to speed limit, they see a red light in the distance and instead of downshifting they pop it in neutral, coast and brake like an auto. so lame lol.

You still depress the pedal to start, it just wont disengage the clutch.

I downshift and engine brake sometimes, but replacing brakes is cheaper than synchros. Not a good idea all the time.

From a stop just shut off the car, stuff it in 1st, push the cluch pedal and start the car. The car will take off if the system is out of fluid since the clutch is engaged. Then drive like you stole it!

I honestly did not know this. Its good to know though.

Does anyone drive like this all the time? Or should the clutch always be engaged? Just curious.

I would hope not. Its a good technique to know, but I wouldnt recommend it in normal circumstances.

Interesting, but id rather not take risk on my already worn syncros.

Very disappointed in the video. What I wanted to know was how he got it to move from a complete standstill. Of course, JSutter comes through! This's the technique I used when my hydraulic line was leaking. And once you start moving, don't stop! Haha.
