Just Repainted my plastic Valve Cover(or whatever its called)

Got bored so I decided to to it now rather than wait til the Spring(its about 48 degrees today, not to bad).
So this is what I started with:

http://a3.cpimg.com/image/0B/D7/8069...-028001E0-.jpg

This is what I ended with(I think I got a little high from the fumes too) :

http://a4.cpimg.com/image/0C/D7/8069...-028001E0-.jpg
http://a6.cpimg.com/image/0E/D7/8069...-028001E0-.jpg
http://a4.cpimg.com/image/16/D7/8069...-028001E0-.jpg
http://a5.cpimg.com/image/21/D7/8069...-028001E0-.jpg

My car is dirty as hell but the paint matches perfectly.

The paint I used was ordered from PaintScratch.com The paint and clearcoat is for plastics(flex).

Its not to late. Just sand and wash that puppy. The first pic was the prior paint job. I just wash it with some orange cleaner(good for removing oil and grime) and sprayed the hell out of is and sat in on the stove for 10 minutes between coats.

I think a white valve cover would look nasty though. maybe with some chrome in the bay it would look nice.

Looks nice...

I like the body-colored thing alot, but my loom is bright red so I painted it bright red as well. I screwed up the first time, and it took me about 2 hours to take all the paint off. But the second time it came out perfect. Now all I need is an Optima Red Top and a red PR CAI.

What else is there to use? Strip off any clearcoat or debris it may have with a thinner or acetone. Then sit there for a few hours and polish it with metal polish (TurtleWax is the best). It will come out polished and shiny just like the lip of your rims.

I think he means "chroming it out" polish. Sandpaper and a lot of time to get that look. Should be as bad as doing your valve covers though.

I didn't understand your post I guess Cyrus, I'm sorry. I've never put wax on my rims though. Can you explain that?

Actually, you should sand it down like Deezo said if it is a very smooth surface. Use maybe 1600 grit sandpaper. Then buy Turtlewax Metal Polish (TurtleWax is the brand). You have to sit there and rub the polish solution onto the bar for hours. When its done, it will come out with that chrome-like shine. But its gonna hurt your elbow rubbing that much, so maybe get an orbital/buffer. It is the same procedure people do to their valve covers and headers. It looks great, but its alot of work.

I think your interior color would be a nice pick. Go with a charcoal color. Look at my first pic.

I like the chromed one on the 2001 AE. Maybe the fellas with the white cars should look for one of these.

Didn't Vic do that?

Dana.. is the paint oil based? do you think you could paint a body kit with it?

You guys who painted the lettering a different color then the rest... how did you do that? I tried doing it with a foam brush but it still ran on me and some got on the valve cover. I need to redo it but curious if you guys had any tips?

Vic's valve cover was treated in the same process (same bodyshop), he's was red/maroon-ish.

At the time of having the car repainted, I thought about doing marblized finish in black/blue for the bodykit and blue upper body. I stayed conservative and stuck with the one color instead

I'm not sure if its oil based(might be, its real auto paint).

You could paint a body kit with is but you would need a few cans to do it. For the cost of the paint, you may be better off having it done by a shop.
