Y Pipe Install Problem

Unlike Craig Mack I am lazy. I have been calling around to muffler shops for install cost on an aftermarket Y. They will not install an aftermarket saying they can be fined $4,500 because the stock has pre-cats and to replace with a pipe that does not have these is illegal. Is this true or are these rednecks smoking something?

yes they can be fined , yes there are pre cats... BUT they can install a cat where your cat is now that will make your car legal

just try and do it yourself and save $$ and a headache

Keep looking. There are shops that will do it. Heck, you may even have to go to a shady, less reputable shop.

you hve to take it to a mom and pop muffler shop.. don't say anything about the legality of it.. just give them the pipe.. let them go at it..

if you tell them its illegal.. they will think you are undercover..

Look for speed shops. Or shops that do custom bending or custom exhaust. I had no problem finding a shop.

Call around and you should be able to find one. I'm surprised that the mechanic even knew there was precats on the Y-pipe.

Did you mention the fact that it eliminates cats to them? If so stop doing that just let them swap it out and be done.
