problem with staying in 1 and 2...

the problem is that I can shift to 2 and 1 (auto tran) but the click thingy do not click back so in another word it doesnt stay there unless i put my hand on it to hold it. how can i fix this problem?

I went under the car ( the front passenger side) and saw this can? its a white and red colored can that has a black tube going up somewhere and down somewhere. the tube has alot of oil around it, is this a oil leak?

huh thats a maxima, im asking whos maxima is that...

gtr- no not over drive, when u shift down from D to 2 to 1, in order to shift u need to press on the button and pull it down to 2 then release the button. theres are only 2 buttons. the BIG ONE above overdrive.

Maybe the shift locking mechanism is not functioning, do you have warranty?

So what you're saying is, that while in 1 or two, the thumb button doesn't pop back out? That's normal, 100% normal, like that on all maxes....

Now if it shifts itself back up to D, then you've got a problem....

I beg to disagree, the 2k2's don't have buttons of any sort on the shifter. Just shift and go... well, after the few second pause that is hehehe

no its not normal because I HAVE TO PUT my hand on the shifter in order for the shifter to be on 1 or 2, or else it POPS UP to D!!
