Finally, the best video I've seen so far:
Fast forward to 10:40 to see the Maxima duke it out with a Porsche 928 for a good NINE MINUTES.

POV is from the 928, read more about it here:

this is pretty nice. Hard to believe but 4th gens are actually little rockets in the Lemons series. many claim they will run top 10 times with a good driver easily.

If that is the same maxima from earlier lemons races i thought the car(and team for that matter) was banned from lemons i was just reading up on the crash it had where it flipped a Cavalier. I think there would have been a few more maximas in Lemons if it wasnt for that incident because they were the first to run a 4th gen and it showed a lot of promise for being a consistently quick car.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I was not aware of this incident. I believe this is indeed the same car. I have just contacted Jay - we'll see what he has to say

He might let it go because its been a couple of years, the car was suppose to have been crushed but oddly they sparred it. Since then they have been a little anti-maxima because they had a hard time dealing with that particular set of people so you might face a little animosity. But the quickest cars on the track in shear straight line power when that thing was running was it, the Porsche 928 and a V8 swapped Volvo. i would love to see what happens when an 00vi is thrown ontop of it.

Good news, Jay says the car's in!

I know you guys are interested in what she's got, I'll update the original post with a list of the car's mods.

How does it ride with the s-tech's on the track? Plans for 00vi?

The car feels fine with the s-techs. Not too bouncy. The AGX shocks they're paired up with are stiff enough to help reduce some of the roll.

I've never driven one with the stock suspension, so I couldn't tell you how much of an improvement it would be.

Tell me more about what a 00 VI is. I didn't hear about that kind of upgrade until I started poking around this forum. From what I've read so far, that's where you take the intake manifold off of a newer VQ30 and adapt it to this one?

No plans for a 00 VI swap or any other type of power mods right now. Keep in mind that this car is competing in LeMons, which has a $500 spending limit on the car + upgrades, that and power mods tend to be closely scrutinized and hit with lap penalties. Reliability and longevity are much more important.

the only problem is sentra guys, we pioneered FWD VQ tuning Sentra guys put it to best use so they know what an 00vi is and all the other stuff associated with it.

Its cheating but if your not cheating your not trying. VQ35 hr or rev up cams can be had for cheap throw those in there and in a JWT ECU or Nistune board, completely undetectable mods plus an 00vi which could potential raise eyebrows of very few, but most guys when the maxima 1st started racing said there was no way it was under $500, well what about the V8 swapped Volvo or the suspiciously healthy 928.

The power curve for a DEK swap or VQ35 is so much better than the stock VQ30. 00vi swap can be done for cheap now, I've seen DEK engines go for 100 bucks.

I've done a lot of track days with my car over the years. On the track that VI is so much better than the VQ30 log manifold, throttle can be held to redline and it still makes good power. I can have the engine at 3K~7K rpm and it pulls out of a corner nicely. Combine that with a gutted car and it will move. I don't consider it cheating when they are swapping V8s into cars and show up with cars that are way above the $500 limit. In racing it is only cheating if you get caught.

Also noticed you had trouble with the wheel bearings. I am finding the front bearings have to be rebuilt after a couple of track days. For a LeMons car I would suggest they be rebuilt before each event. The front bearings are a weak point that there is no quick fix available that I know about. Wheel studs were also a problem so I upgraded to ARP Mitsu EVO wheel studs a few years back. Though on a lightweight gutted car the standard studs should be fine.

So the race has come and gone. I've been so busy preparing and planning for it, I haven't had a chance to post a real update -- until now:

After the track day on 8/23, a teammate and I got to work on retheming. Rather than just add another layer of paint to the heap, we opted to sand her down a bit to get a nice rough texture to work with. This would help the new paint stick:

Underneath all of that tape was a cushion fashioned out of a rag and some old plastic bags (not pictured). I yanked all of that out as well. Lemons requires all airbags be removed, which the previous owner has already done.

Here's a link to the video I referenced for the NRG install:

Part numbers for all of the NRG equipment:

ST-006BL-Y - 350mm Steering Wheel
SRK-140H - Short Hub
SRK-200RD - Quick Release Gen 2.0

NOTE: The colors don't match up, and this is because the wheel was on sale for almost 40% off. It's nothing that a little red paint won't fix later.
