Removing tint?
My car got broken into last weekend and I got the window replaced but the problem is that the driver side window is still tinted. I am getting all of the windows re-done in the spring but for the time being I would like to at least have the tint off the driver's side. Btw, it has been on the car for about three years. Does anyone know how to remove tint?
Re: Removing tint?
Peel off as much of the tint as you can. Spray the window liberally with ammonia and cover for 10-15 with cellophane wrap to allow the old adhesive to soften. Then, get a flat edge razor blade (stainless steel) and scrap off the gummy adhesive. Any difficult spots need to be re-sprayed and scraped off. To be thorough, it is best to remove the door panel.
The pro I took my car to removed the tint with nothing but a heat gun. He just heats the outside of the glass and just slowly peels off the tint on the other side.
He said he does this method, because as he is peeling the tint off, there is no sticky residue or glue left behind. He can then just straight clean the window and tint it again.
I have done this method myself, and believe it is the best method, just takes time. I never like the amonia or orange cleaner method with a sos pad. Too much pain.
