REVIEW: Magnaflow on a 2.25 SS Catback.
I just got a custom cat-back exhaust from Z Motorsports here in spring, texas. It's got 2.25in piping - I know 2.5 would've been better, but I was too worried about backpressure loss.
LOOKS: The muffler is Polished SS, and the piping is Brushed SS. The muffler is Magnaflow #14843, a 2.25" inlet/4" outlet muffler. Big, yes. Ricey, not really, unless you consider all big tips ricey, which I know some people here do . It fills the bumper cutout nicely, but not perfect - I'm guessing it would take a 5" tip to do that, and that's too rich for my blood. looks, I'd give it a 5 out of 5.
SOUND: Good, real good. NEVER fart-cans, bees-in-a-can, etc. Sounds deep and smooth, very smooth. Nice rumble at startup. Drones a bit at 2000-2300 RPMs.After 3300 or so RPMs, the POP charger is louder than the exhaust, but the exhaust seems to have increased the overall loudness of the car. Overall on sound, I'd give it a 4 out of 5.
PERFORMANCE: Barely. I knew when getting it it would be at most maybe 7hp. I feel a slight bit more pull on the top top end, 4500 onward. Most of that I'm betting is coming from the piping. An interesting note: I feel NO off-the-line loss of power or torque, I think that the improved piping really helped to negate theat effect.
performance, I'd give it 3 out of 5, but that's to be expected.
The price of this whole job was $275 at Z Motorsports in Spring, Texas. It would be $315 if you wanted to upgrade to an Apex'i N1 DUNK series kevlar muffler. Wasn't worth it to me, and Carbon/Kevlar mufflers are just ricey.
Anyway, hope I've helped someone - maybe sometime someone will search for magnaflow and find this informative, helpful, and well written article. Or not.
