Things for the Maxima from the Philippines
Things for the Maxima from the Philippines
Since my parents are leaving for the Philippines next week, I was just wondering if anyone has gone to the Philippines and was able to bring back stuff for their Maxima? From what I heard the Nissan Cefiro A32 is that same exact car as the 4th gen Maxima, so they might have something there for it. Im pretty sure they won't bring back a muffler, but is there any really cheap Mobile video or audio equipment the might be able to get me? Last year i remember they got me a strobe headlight kit for 10 bucks which is really cheap, but they were also made cheap. I was thinking some racing pedels, LCD screen with a DVD player, but im aiming at Kenwood's Excelon KVT-910 DVD or Pioneer's AVX-P7300 DVD, is it possible that they can get thru customs with that. My idea was that they can say its a gift from someone, like wrapping it up and putting on it:
To: Xander
From: your Kuya Boy
Or something similar to that so they won't have to pay customs. How much money should i give my parents to they can get me some of this?

Re: Re: Bringing back electronics, audio equip. from overseas
Do you still have to pay a customs tarriff even if you purchase something from a "Duty-Free" shop? I thought they were tariff exempt. The downside from a duty-free shop is that the majority of what they sell is name brand and a bit expensive.

Prices bet. duty free shops may vary somewhat but not by much, largely dependent on exchange rate. Things like alcohol and smokes are definately cheaper at duty free shops (because there's no tax).
By the way, FYI: there are now very strict enforcements in stop-overs (when first entering intermediate stop-over at domestic airport on international flights). My Mom just got back on Monday from the Pacific, her luggage was searched in Seattle. Don't bother trying to hide anything.
i have actually been to the Philippines. my uncle lives over the in Desmares village (spelling is off prob) when i went over there the dollar was pretty strong. Although i was younger and did not have my maxima yet, so parts was not an option. Customs are probably a little bit tighter now but two years ago when i went, i came back with so many cigars ps games nintendo games, all the good stuff. i was not stopped or questioned at all, and cause i had an american passport i just went straight through customs. my flight was from philippines to tokyo to michigan to CT. no stops, so i would not worry about it to much, the present idea might work but they might ask you to unrap it if they suspect it could be something dangerous
Present Idea = Won't work
Over the holidays, all major airports were warning fliers that any and all wrapped packages would be opened and searched, so I have a feeling this enforcment is extended indefintely. My $0.02
