Do magazine ppl not know how to drive?

I was just reading an article in Sport compact car about the new altima and they were comparin it to the maxima they have a page with
the stats for both .. now first of all the times they got for the altima and max both seem slow for the hp they both now have heres what they got

Altima 5 spd
------------
0-60 6.7
1/4 mile 14.9@95.5

Maxima 6spd
------- 0-60 6.9
1/4 mile 15.0@95.6

The other thing is and i know this has been talked about before
the altima dyno was 200hp and 211 torque... the max was 218hp and 230 torque.... but both weigh the same how the hell is the altima
faster ? personally i thing this guy dont know how to drive
i mean we got two ppl on here who got a 14.3 with and auto and a 14.2 with a 6spd who just started driving it LOL
Just annoyed me that they made it out like the altima was a better car .......
Oh yeah and the other thing is the altima had an open diff and the max has the helical limited slip

Ok, two cars can have the same weight, same engine, same power, etc, but if the gear ratios are different, then its possible for one car to be faster.

As for the magazine people and driving -- I don't know that I'd believe the times given there. Weren't the 2k & 2k1 5 speeds faster (0-60) than 6.9???

And I would think the helical limited slip on the maxima should help it smoke the altima since it shold be able to launch quicker???

yea... dmb ran 14.3 stock, and another guy ran 14.4 in a stock GLE (auto).
These guys are loosing like .6+ seconds on the majority of their test drives.

How about Daniel Haraud's test from Carpoint.com for the 2k2 6 spd.
"0-60 mph in 7.1 sec. 1/4-mile in 15.5 sec."
http://carpoint.msn.com/Vip/Heraud/N...xima/2002S.asp
wtf is that...

They must get some heavily abused cars there, with f-ed up trannies and worn out clutches, or their driving skills lack.

Re: Do magazine ppl not know how to drive?

Those are some REALLY high dyno numbers. I wonder how a Maxima with 255hp can dyno 218hp??? That's high even for a 6-spd.

Most major magazines test with a full tank of gas and then correct for atmospheric conditions. This explains most of the discrepancy.

No magazine has gotten times like I have in a stock 95 Automagic...

Not that high: 255hp less 15% driveline loss (38hp) = 217hp

But then, I could be wrong.

I'm not a math major, just a rocket propulsion engineer (oh wait, that'd be a rocket scientist...), but the math looks good here. Just to clarify, I DO NOT work for NASA, so I can do math...

That guy couldn't drive a car fast if his life depended on it. His times for a lot of cars are always ridiculously slow. I think they must test cars going up a steep hill or something, or he shifts stick shift cars like a granny

I do question how well they can drive myself at times.

I only use mag numbers are a starting point.

Most of the time they usually dont correct the times.
