raced a volvo S60 T5 5-speed today...

ok my car is FINALLY back to normal...I got the intake manifold and fuel system professionally cleaned...and the car is fast again!!!

Spanked a S60 T5 out of a light bad today...I even gave him the jump as I wasn't sure he was going to race. It was amusing. He just plain got hammered...like 3 cars to 60...

yay for the fixed maxi!

Yeah that sounds about right. The Volvo has almost 250 hp but I think it's a turbo, probably not in the 6's. Just shows you more is not better but it's how you use it. Not even sure that a 2k2 5-spd could take a 4th gen--4th gen seems to have hit the sweet spot with 190/205. All the other iterations don't seem to conclusively deliver.

I used to drive a V70 and S70 (both GLT's / 190HP) and although they are quick cars, the Max still feels faster. The higher pressure turbos aren't a BIG difference in acceleration. I guess in this case the Max IS faster.

Are you talking about volvo or Maxima. The 2k2 max is 6-speed and would toast a 4th gen pretty easily. A fifth gen 2k1 5-speed would be about equal.

Depending on if the 4th Gen is modded or not. Remember, the blue is running 14.2 in the 1/4 and I believe one of his buddies (also on the org) is running 14.1. A 2k1 5 speed is not equal in speed to a 2K2 (If I read your comment correctly).

Oh please I hope there isn't a 4th vs 5th gen discussion again especially in this thread!

Those volvos are normally pretty quick. I remember the 850T had a top speed of `155 and sub 7 second 0-60. You don't hear too much abou them in street racing in North America. With mods those are crazy fast!

Re: raced a volvo S60 T5 5-speed today...

Nice kill! You would think Volvo's top performance car would run better than that! In all Volvo's the boost is limited in first gear for "drivetrain reliability" so they don't get full boost until 2nd gear.

My mother drives a V40 with a 5 speed auto and it's not that hot off the line but it pulls hard from a roll in 2nd and 3rd gear. 4th and 5th gear are geared for economy so the fun stops there. For about $1700 you can get an ECU, downpipe, and cat back exhaust and increase hp from 160hp to 220hp and torque from 170 ft. lbs to 260 ft. lbs of torque

Yep, i have seen some modded Volvos w/ HUGE Hair Dryers (Turbos) and they can be fast. Never-the-less, good kill Bri. I take it you didnt need to spray? I know i would have sprayed just to teach him lesson so he wont dare try again.

1995 Volvo 850 T-5R(auto) 0-60=6.6 1/4=15.0 The newer Type Rs are very quick but auto. Watch out Volvo is coming out with a 6 speed Type R wagon with over 300hp

Sorry if it sounded confusing. I meant that the 4th gens = all 5th gens stock before 2k2. It seems the 2k2 only needs a y-pipe to get below 14s. Also, the 2k2 autos are waaaaay faster than both 4th and 2k1-2k0 5th gens. The extra torque really helps out despite the gearing of automatics.

I bet the G35 auto will be almost as fast as G35 6 speed due to that 260 ft/lb of torque and 5 speed auto.

The Volvo S70 T-5 5spd was very fast.

Road & Track got it from 0-60 = 6.1 (14.7, I think). IPDUSA.com makes a sweet turbo upgrade for these too. Incase you did not know, a S70 T-5 is my 2nd favorite car

You Chicago boys like that word "quality" hehe.

Those high pressure T5s are fast. I know a kid with one and a wetterauer chip that supposedly kicks the boost up enough to be at about 300 hp.

I wouldn't underestimate some volvos

My mom owns a 99' S80 T6, twin turbo with 270HP, its real slow out of the hole but once it gets under full boost it would reel my max in real quick, that second gear in that car in very quick.

S80 T6s are about 15 flat cars.....it would take WAY past the 1/4 mile for an S80 to catch up with a modded 5-speed maxima IF they are even going to catch up.

Question....how did you run a 14.67 with a trap of only 92mph....that just doesn't work with a maxima...you'd have to have a CRAZY 60ft time to do that...

I dont know what to tell you, I dont have my time sheet with me, but from what I remember the 60' was a 2.1, I was running on stock 16's with the pressure at 22psi, I was slipping the clutch and it hooked up perfect, the only reason I could think of for the low trap speed is that I left it in 3rd and did not shift into 4th. Maybe this will help explain it better, MATT CALDER was with me that night to witness the run.
