Sway bar bushing question

Just recently installed a rear sway bar on my 2010 maxima with the polyurethane bushings which are loud as hell. We'll I want to change them back to Oem bushings.

Anyways, my question is instead of waiting to use my buddy's lift to raise the car which I don't know when that would be, I drive a tow truck for a living, is it safe to lift the rear end, remove the brackets and swap the bushings?

Do the wheels need to be free floating? Will the sway bar move out of whack at all?

OR am I simply overthinking myself

Sway bars should be installed when the car is on the ground.

Buy some ramps.

No, I understand fully what you are saying.

What I am saying is...I hope the lift you used at the shop lifted the entire car by the wheels, not the body. Sway bars need to be installed when the suspension is loaded. The wheels should NOT be free floating.

If you didn't, this may very well be the reason your bushings are noisy. So going back to your buddy's shop to (improperly) install the OEM bushings with the car in the air will not solve anything.

I see what your saying now, can u explain?

So everyone that did this mod themselves putting the car on jack stands did it wrong? Is that what your saying

I'm not saying your wrong, I just don't get why the sway bar can't be installed on a lift or jack stands, or even with a tow truck as I was asking

Forgive me. For some reason I thought this was posted in the 5th gen forum, and only now realized you have a 2010. Installing the sway bar while on a lift with wheels off is the only way to install it. Sorry for the confusion.

You are however, one of the first that I've experienced that is reporting bushing noise. Are you sure everything is greased properly, in the right location, and tight? Noises are visible. I would poke around and see where specifically the noise is coming from.

I'd still not use a tow truck to lift up the car. Is the time waiting really worth the risk?

I am 100% sure it's the bushings and yes grease was applied, it's legit been raining here like crazy so maybe it's washed away....I asked about lifting it with the truck which takes seconds because I drive a self loader....it would be a lot more convenient this way, but I will wait I'm in no rush

sway bar link bushing do not make any noises or movement, they just makes it stiff when you "sway" as you make sharp turn, so minimize body roll. So not sure if you mean it's loud or too stiff as a noddle causing whatever you got in the car shaking or rattle.
