what is the diff between suction and liquid?
what are the No.12 & No.6 stand for?

what is the accumulator of the a/c? the same as air filter? also needs scheduled maintenance?

The suction line is the larger (probably the no.12) this line has the gasses returned to the compressor. The liquid line (small hose) sends the liquid coolant to the expansion valve where the gasses are able to expand and cool.
It's good that you are replacing the reciever dryer/accumulator...but, Usually they last quit a long time. I dont reccomend you doing this b/c to do it properly you need a good vacuum pump and guages to remove all the moisture out of the system if you want to have full performance out of the system. Keeping moisture out is critical.

Why would you be replaceing these items anyhow? They should last the life of your car unless there damaged or the system is opened up.
If the system is opened up you need to have it pumped dry with a vacuume as eric mentioned. Let a shop do this job. A/C systems do require some special tools. Refrigerent is under high pressure and isn't so easy to work with.
