I'm a skeptic, should i be? (About intakes)
Okay, first of all i'd just like to set it straight that i do believe in the intakes that are in the market - be it CAI or POP or Ram and what they deliver.
Here's my observations about the people who use it however (esp. the POP's),
1) A lot of people say they lose low-end torque with the POP (posts from months ago)
2) A lot of people also say they haven't felt a loss at all (posts just in the previous days)
3) Now, given it's winter and all that. Wouldn't it just be natural that no one really experience that loss?
4) Once summer comes and there's all that ambient as well as radiant heat wouldn't the higher temperatures wreak more havoc in a car at a standstill?
I'm just somewhat of a skeptic at this point.
Thanks
- Mike

Skeptical about what? The power gains they produce? I gained .75 mph at the end of the 1/4 mile just by pulling out my paper filter and using a K&N. This is no joke, I have runs back to back with normal and K&N filter, and the results are plain as day on my timeslips. An intake will result in even better flow, and thus larger gains than that. Probably on the order of 1-1.5 mph trap speed increases.

A skeptic about the "no low-end torque" loss. It seems those who say they experienced a loss in the low-end most probably installed theirs during summer or the hot season while all those who say they didn't experience low-end loss have installed it during the winter.
I'm not a skeptic about the high-end power gain as i know they all put out what they say it does. It's the low-end i'm more concerned about.
Sprint, if only there's an intake for the 2k2 already

Soundmike, Your right on track with what your saying. There is low end loss in the summer with POP chagers. It's not so noticeable in the winter because of the cold weather. A CAI would be the way to go if you really wanted performance. I did a little getto mod on my stock airbox to let in additional air only when the engine called for it. Seems to be working like a charm! I have no low end loss but can feel more of a pull at WOT. Got a nice little growl too.
I have my own theories about intakes - pro's and con's - but don't want to get into it here. Some guys want top end for 1/4 mile, some want raw power all over, some just want sound. There's a happy med. thats to be found for others. I think I've found mine.
