Thanks from newbie

I just joined after buying my '98 SE 5-speed. I've been wanting a Max for a couple of years, and I've been lurking on the org for a few months. Thanks to everyone for all the great info I've gotten on modifications and so forth.

A piece of advice for everyone looking for a 5-speed: I got my Max in Houston (I live in Alabama) for $9000. I've been searching classifieds and internet sites for a while now. I believe I got such a good deal because the dealer was a Pontiac/GMC dealer that didn't totally seem to know what he had on his hands(I believe he even thought it was a GXE!), and according to him, had trouble selling a 5-speed. I think they originally were asking somewhere in the neighborhood of $11-14k, but when I found it on autotrader.com, the asking price was $9850. I was able to talk them down after a mechanic I got to look at the car found a transmission leak and possible water damage(though nothing serious).

So for everyone still looking for their car, keep searching until you find what you truly want, and pay special attention to non-Nissan used car dealerships. Thanks again.

Welcome to the board. Great job on the deal. Don't let anyone here talk you into paying them $50 though. j/k. Make a bunch of posts (like 10 or 12) and do a couple of searches and you should become a "newbie." I was a lurker when I joined yesterday, but not anymore.

Of course. I plan on starting slowly with some styling mods, but who knows where I'll end up. I love the car stock right now, but hmm, that sc, hmm...

True, hopefully not for too much longer!

Turns out there is no flood damage that my own mechanic can find, and he can't find anything else wrong with the car. The transmission isn't going to cost me too much to fix, at least I hope not. I should find out the damage tomorrow.
