Detonation - What it is, causes, avoidance, etc.

http://www.vikingspeedshop.com/detonation/

I put together an article from some research I did on detonation.

It's applicable to the entire run of Nissan motors (VG, VQ, etc.) but I figured I'd start here and if anyone wants to add it to the other forums, go ahead.

Open to questions, comments, etc.

Now here in the northeast,we have 10% ethanol in all of our blends,so 87 octane may be a tad higher than 87 w/out ethanol, but if the 2016 maxima needs to run 91,than it may be closer to 92 -93 w/out ethanol, does this sound right?

It's hard to say honestly. The ethanol will certainly temper the fuel a bit, but there are separate gasoline mixtures for gasoline that is destined to be mixed with ethanol. Whether that is adding stabilizing agents or reducing the anti-knock portion of the fuel I don't know for certain.

I would treat E10 as pump gas.

New Maxima's will have sufficient adjustment range to adjust for any 91 octane fuel, ACN 91, E10 91, and normal 91.

Nice work

The only thing I might add is some of it is more race car specific where other areas are more daily driver minded.
