You guys who are doing your own brake jobs - what kind of grease are you using on the shims and the pin bolts? Nissan recommends PBC (Poly Butyl Cuprysil) for the brake shims and 'rubber grease' for the pin bolt. I have a brake kit from Courtesy which contains small packets of each type but where would I get more if I needed it?

I have a feeling it is simply known by some other name because all of the automotive stores around here have "General Purpose Grease" and "Disc Brake Grease". Can anyone who knows for sure clarify this issue?

you basically need high temp grease around the sliding part of the pads. also a dab in the pins/inside the boots helps. some anti sieze inside the thread part of the pin wouldn't hurt. the high temp grease you can get at the parts store. do not use regular grease..that tends to melt and go on the rotor.

GregP, you can pick up a pint of PBC from Nissan for ~ $18-20 LOL It'll last you about 300 brake jobs or drop by PepBoys and pick up smaller packets of PBC grease.

Thanks guys - I didn't see any packets of PBC grease at PepBoys - only large canisters. What about the rubber grease? Next time I will ask someone at the store where they keep the stuff.

rubber grease is really not necessary. shoot some silcone lube on it and you should be ok.

Silicon grease. I got these little packets from Autozone that were $0.89 a piece. Each packet is enough for one axle.
