Who has remote starts?
I got back into a maxima last week and the previous owner put a aftermarket remote start. The remote does not tell me what brand it is. I know how to start it but when I get in the car, what do I do? The seat doesn't move forward or anything. If I put my foot on the brake the car shuts off. Anyone help please thank you.

You have to put the key in the start position (do not crank) then step on the brake and the car will stay on.
It's an antitheft thing. Someone can't just hop into the car while it's on and drive off without the key.

How do I put the key in the start position? I usually just get in the car. Foot on break and start button?

Don't meant to double post but...
If you're talking about a maxima that has a push button start, then the remote start is going to function differently than a car with an actual key and ignition cylinder. The cylinder , in a traditional car, is turned to the start position to enable the "take over" procedure and allow you to drive away and shift and what not without the engine turning off. Because the push button lacks the conventional cylinder-key components, the "take over" procedure is different. Some cars you simply have to unlock the car twice after remote starting to keep the engine running, some cars just won't stay running after entering it following a remote start. Try getting it checked out by a local shop that specializes in electronics, alarms, remote starts, etc...see if they find any lapses in proper installation. If it's all good then you might be better off just using the remote start for warming it up in the winter or cooling off in summer. Best of luck.

If all else fails, call the previous owner or a reputable alarm shop. I'm sure all remote start systems on cars with start buttons operate the same.
Or I bet Google will find the answer quickly...
