Raced a 300M last night
I was screwin around town last night, when this young guy driving his mom's 300M starts messin with me. I first figure that those cars were slow. But low and behold, he was giving me a run for his money. I then find out those things have 252 HP and 255 ft lb torque with a tiptronic sport shift 4 speed auto. But surprisingly, my 97 SE with 5 speed and some minor mods was hangin with him very well. Maybe his weight at 3,600 pounds put him at a distadvatage. Then again I had a 200 pound passenger, and my 2 15" woofer stereo in tow as well. From a roll on, if he didnt catch me at the bottom of the power band, I would pull on him all the way to 120. But I didnt blow him away. From a stand still I was able to launch much better and he wasnt able to catch up, probably because I'm stick and I have the Quaife differential for traction. Although I still did experience some wheel hop here and there, that I hope I can take care of. I'm still pretty amazed that my car with significantly less torque and HP was able to keep up as well as it did. I'm wondering how fast my car would be if I ever took the stereo out.

that's funny...I ran TWO of those in two days...BOTH on the highway...and I TOASTED both of them BAD. No spray....plus my car was slow becuase it's running WAY rich with the new fuel pump and stock FPR...
Eric...what NA mods do you have???

I got ghetto cone intake, Y pipe, B pipe for go forwards mods. I got rear sway bar, front strut bar for handling. And I have quaife differential and ACT clutch for traction. Off the line I was able to stomp him, cause of me having stick shift, a torque biasing differential, and a lighter car. If it wasnt for my wheel hop I'd really stomp him. Usually when we were at a roll-on, he would get me when I was around 70 MPH, which is just in 3rd gear, but not deep enough to get the "launch". I was pullin on him, but we werent on a highway, but just a 2 lane road that does have some curves. I wasnt about to go blasting at 110 MPH around some of those curves so we both slowed down many times.
It also demonstrated my need for slotted brake rotors (ideally big brake), because I was able to get my brakes to fade very quickly under heavy braking from high speeds.
I know he was not modified cause i used to go to HS with the guy and we stopped and talked after and opened hoods.

Yay, we rag on a perfectly good car, and then wonder why Acura, Lexus, etc. think we drive a POS. The 300M is a pretty nice, pretty damn fast car that handles well. Have a little respect for others people.
