Did I destroy my engine?

Hey guys! I think I've done it, I think I may have destroyed my 04 maxima SL. I've had the car for 6 years, and a small engine knock developed about 4 years ago after driving with low oil. (I know, i know) I had been losing oil here and there, but kept on top of it pretty well with regular oil changes, top offs etc... While driving one day Last week, I noticed white smoke coming from the engine, near the windshield toward the bottom. Maybe more so on the passenger side. It started out small but got heavier as I got home. It didn't overheat, I have no engine lights on, I'm baffled. I checked the radiator after it sat for a few days, radiator' s full, engine oil is between high and low on the dipstick. I started it last night, she started right up but was idling a little rough. I let it run, it started smoking again but the temperature gauge still didn't pass the middle. Radiator is still full, coolant resovoir is kinda low. .I'm thinking maybe a valve cover gasket?? I'm hoping it's not a blown head, I feel like such a moron for ruining this car. Can anybody give me some insight before I just scrap it for $300.. maybe its not the end.

I would take a look at the valve covers for sure. They are notorious for going bad (gaskets and spark plug tube seals).

You can get an aftermarket set of front and rear covers with gaskets from ebay for about $50 shipped.

That's what I'm thinking... So, I'll hold off on scrapping it for now. Thank you very much.

Valve cover do you smell oil with the smoke as well. The first thing comes to mind is the water pump and timing chain area check for leaks on coolant in that area.
