Any difference between I30 and Maxima Y2K mufflers? nm

I imagine that you're asking about both as 2000 mufflers.
The 2000 Maxima has a valve the opens up at higher rpms to allow more air to travel through it. With it closed it provides more back pressure for more torque. Its supposedly comes from skyline technology. The dual tips exit the muffler straight and Nissan offers an optional chrome cover to finish off the tips giving them an oval look.
The 2000 I30 has a standard muffler (no fancy valve) and provides 5 more hp. So much for the skyline technology. The tip('s?) exit out curving to point down.
Fyi... The 20th anniversary comes with the I30 muffler.

The tips point down. So there is no exhaust top. Like Mercedes and BMW mufflers on their high end cars.

The 2001 Maxima AE, 2000+ Maxima, and 2000 I30 muffler are the same. They all have the same part number and it's made by Calsonic. The only difference is the tips. When I get the time, I'm going to call Nissan to figure out where they get the extra 5 HP.

I'm sure about the AE one. I crawled under the car at the dealer to check it out. Sure enough... same part # as the 2000 Max muffler.

Not sure about the AE 2K1 Max, but that extra 5hp doesn't come from the muffler.

Well then, it's official: The extra 5hp is NOT from the muffler. Thanks for the verification Paul!
