Possible CVT failure?
Possible CVT failure?
Hello all, new here and terrified. I just figured I’d ask here even though it’s still going in the shop.
2017 Maxima base. About 80k.
Bought at 40k, and it’s been fun. Aside from the occasional bog down when accelerating quickly.
The other day on my way home from work I noticed the rpm’s acting erratic, coasting around 40mph. When I hit a hill and tried to accelerate it just starting jerking and not getting much power going up. I got it home as I was almost there, and when I put it in park the engine seemed to be revving on its own.
Does this sound like the cvt or something else?
Thank you all who answer!
edit: I meant to post this in 8th gen forum. Still any guesses are appreciated.

Thanks for the response! No, completely stock. I did fire it up about a week ago, took a friend 2 houses up just to see what it'd do. When I parked in the drive it did have a smell.. don't know if that helps or hurts the case of it being the transmission? If it ever stops raining I'm going to slide under and see if I can spot any kind of leaks. I'll look into the throttle position sensor as well.
