Hey guys, I'm gonna make my first trip to the 1/4 mile track next Fri. I have an auto Max, any tips for me? I've never done this before, so any help would be appreciated. After all, you guys don't want some CIVICS to beat me right?....hehe

Here is what I do (did)

First thing you should do is turn the car off and let it cool for about 10-15 min between runs at least. Other tips are have about a 1/4 tank or less, deflate front tires to 19-22psi, remove spare tire and jack (I never did this but other do), stage shallow, leave on the 3rd yellow light!. Because if you leave on the green light then you are late (bad reaction time). Since you have an auto you should brake torque to around 1100-1500 once your car or both cars are staged. Once the 3rd yellow flashes hit the gas. Keep it to the floor until you finish the 1/4. For best results you should shift 1-2 around the redline and 2-3 at around 6200-6300rpm. Remember the cooler your engine temp is the faster its gonna be. Now you don't want the temp gauge to go below C or else its gonna slow you down.

Wheelspin may look and sound cool. But it wastes time. You will spin the tires because the max has so much torque down low. But try to keep it at a minimal. I actually shifted at redline on each shift. Even 2-3. Never tried shifting early on the 2-3. Maybe you should try both. I hope you have some good tires. Traction is the big issue with our cars. Note, if you lose to a regular run of the mill civic at the track.. We will find out.. And we will have to fine you 50 dollars per loss.. The money will go to keeping the BBS running.

Ok here i am

yes i'll sell you a sticker..
a $10 sticker will take .1 off your time
a $50 sticker will take .5 off your time and so on

HERE SOME TIPS: from the reigning 3rd place holder of the Import Survival Series ( I just LOVE sayin that)
I checked your mods and here are my tips:

1) Let car cool down A LOT.. open hood at least 15-20 mins before you run ... the more that better.. when you turn it on the Temp gauge should be on the "C"

2) Please no wheelspin.. don't blaze your tires before you run.. all your doing is spanking the tranny... you don't need it .. let the idiot next to you burn out all he wants.. your not putting on a show..

3) Line up put the car in "1" brake torque to about 1300-1500 rpm.. no more or you'll get wheelspin ...BTW: deflate tires to 25psi.. When you see the 3rd yellow PLANT YOUR FOOT..

4) Push the shifter into "2" at 5800-6000 rpm's.. car should still be pullin like a **** .. push shifter into "D" AT 5900-6000 rpm's WITH OVERDRIVE OFF ..KEEP OVERDRIVE OFF AT ALL TIMES when you put it into D you might feel a little less pull ...well your in 3rd gear trust me it's still pullin.. keep your foot planted through the whole run.. your trap speed should be 85-90 .. but make sure you don't let off the gas to early ..

That should be it..
Is your K&N a pop charger or drop in filter ?
OH and run with your stock 15" tires if you can .. the 17" rims WILL slow you down if you have to run with 17" rims .. brake torque it a little higher cuz you'll have more traction..
Good luck ..
I'd say shoot for a 15.8 time..

he's better off deep staging since his RT is probably going to be a little slower.

Ranil, when you first pull up towards the burnout box, go around it. Driving through it puts water on the tires and reduces traction.

When you first pull up, let the other car stage first and watch what/where he does his stuff. Most first timers have no clue where the laser lights are and just keep going past them LOL

the first light you will trip is the called the pre-stage light. The first light on the christmas tree will light up. A few inches later you will trip the second light. At this time you can stop and get ready to launch, or you can inch forward other inch or two - by doing this, the first prestage light will flicker off and only the stage light will show. Once both cars are staged, you have about 1-2 seconds to get the revs up before the lights go off. You will see 3 amber lights, one green, and one red. When you see the last amber come up, floor it while releasing the brake.

On the autos, have left foot on brake, right foot on accelerator. When you get to ~ 1800-2000 rpm, the car might start lurching forward. Don't rev beyond the stall speed. Test out your stall speed before you get to the track.

Once at the end of the track, the winner has a light on his side light up. You know when you're near the end when the mph is around 85-90 ish. Slow down.. you'll probably pass the first exit (for 1/8 mile), take the 2nd or 3rd exit. The winner is suppose to exit first, so if you're on the far lane and lose, slow down and tuck in behind him. If you're the winner and the exit is on your side, just stay in your lane and keep braking. If you're the winner and you're on the far side, use your blinker to move over (if you have room). any experience racer will slow down and let you cut in front of him if he's the loser.

there's tons of more info but I'm getting tired of typing LOL these are just the basics

Well

Since you mention it doug..

Third place may be second place loser but

Third place is still better than being too scared to show up...

ha ha feel the wrath..
My point: i was there won third.. i lost to the infamous Megamax.. (didn't we go over this ?)
If not here's the story ..
I took my foot off the gas.. don't ask why cuz i dunno ..
all i know is i see Jeff right next to me halfway down the track and i'm thinking "What" i had a .6 second head start ?
how is he next to me ? so my brain stops functioning and i let off the gas.. therefore losing miserably

If and when you :
1) place in any drag racing event .. not till next year..
or
2) Beat Megamax down the strip ...NEVER HAPPEN cuz it's in Va !

then you may brag and boast all you want and i'll let my title die

Until then bow down to the title

I've got more trophies than both you combined, so hah! lol

nothing wrong with a runner-up.. give him an 'f' for effort

see doug

the key word here is "IF"

If i had 1000 dollars i'd get rims..
if i had 3000 dollars i'd get an S/C
If i won the lottery i would never work again ...
If you showed up .. you MIGHT have beaten.. don't say you ran faster 1/4 mile cuz in bracket eliminations it's not about your time its about you RT...

But since none of the above are true all YOU can do is speculate and i can bask in the glory of my title..

Whoa

Punking out ?
I have no need to run..
If i run again i'll pull a 15.5 timeslip... i know what my car will do ..
I know the best way to drag now..i won't pull better than that so there's no need to ..

You on the other hand don't know what your car will run..
another reason

95 Slushbox @ 99.7 K miles..
by the time you see me on sat i'll have hit the 100K mark..

My tranny cooler is sitting in my garage.. when i get it on i'll drag..by then i'll have enuff mods to be running 15.1's ...

Track tips

Find the slowest car and race against him...no matter what, you'll look quick.

And go real real fast.

Yup

No offense taken maxrod...
Offense taken doug ....

It's all about driving skill my friend..
You need to run consistent times and try to run against the right person..
IN brackets it's about RT and staging..
3 times i won because the other person redlighted..
1 time because someone ran faster than their posted time
1 time because the other person posted a time faster than his car..

I'm Just that good
Yes i am a little baby like doug says..
But i'm the only little baby you know with 2 drag racing trophies so ha .. and i got a sticker
