MaineI30 is back

Welp after six weeks in the body shop, I picked the car back up today. It looks excellent, just two spots that we noticed in the sunlight, they are going to fix those at my convenience.

For those who need some history, see: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=89805

Also, if anyone tells you insurance companies suck, listen to my story. I went to pick the car up a couple weeks ago, it was "ready," and I got there and it was just NOT ACCEPTABLE... mediocre finish quality on two of the panels, drips, door messed up, etc. they were very cool about it and gave me a loaner and said they'd make it perfect, etc...

But, I called my insurance company immediately after, and within two hours they had an adjuster out there looking the car over, apparently telling the body shop manager a few things, including discovering things that were not perfect that neither I nor the service shop had noticed.

The insurance company (State Farm) then called me and told me this: if I am not totally satisfied with how it looks when I pick it up, and the shop doesn't make it right, I, at my option, can take it to another body shop of my choice (for a full year) and have the work done to my satisfaction and State Farm will pay, then "recover" the money from the other shop. They also required new, genuine Infiniti parts. They were really looking out for me and that's nice.

The dealer's service manager was also very cool, kept his eye on it, and said that next time I bring it in for scheduled maintenance, the maintenance is no charge, and also they will fix those two spots (and anything else I notice) while they have the car.

So basically it looks like all of this is having a happy ending.

Anthony,

I'm glad to hear all worked out. Hopefully both you and the I30 will stay safe for years to come.

My friend's brother had $10,000 worth of audio/video equipment ripped off his truck and state farm picked up the tab...

plus as I just edited into the post, they required NEW, genuine, Infiniti parts.

I have had 7 policies with State Farm for about 6 years now, and I can't say enough positive about them. I know, I know, people hate insurance companies, but these guys have really come through for me on this and a couple other things over the years. Plus, while the car was in the shop, I just got my policy renewal for the car -- my premiums went DOWN $200 per year. I'm now paying about $650 a year. (for full comp/coll/liab/medical/rental/lost wages coverage)

The reason for this is that my wife (per my agent's recommendation after my speeding tickets) is the rated driver on the I30 policy, with me as authorized driver, so HER rating counts on the car, not mine. It's vice-versa on the truck (95 pathfinder,) and the premium on the truck went up about $350 a year due to my two speeding tickets last year, and I'm still not sure what it will go up due to last month's accident. So I now pay about $850 a year on the truck (with the new rating.)

When you consider everything, I'm getting a great deal.

I consistently get great service from them, I think a company deserves the credit for what their people do - because the corporate culture obviously encourages this... and all a company is is a bunch of people.

I just, usually, deal with my agent. Although I did talk to claims a couple times, they were great.

Congrats!

Too bad my car can't be fixed ... well ... it could, but it wouldn't be worth it.

I will post pix soon. It looks better than it did ... I have an entirely new front end (hood/bumper/etc)!!! No more paint chips, etc. so I might put an XPEL thing on it to protect is.

new windshield, too.. although the lights on the passenger side look reeeeeeeeeallly shiny and new, and the drivers side ones don't quite glisten as much.. but it looks puuuurty

you can use some SafeCut on the other light

and it will look as new as the other..

btw, I think that varies from state to state. While all are required to give you new parts, most companies in most states have given notice that they can use aftermarket parts. In most cases, due to fit, finish and liablity, it's easier to use the OEM parts.

Glad you got it all fixed up Anthony! I've heard good things all over about Farmers. I think it's time to switch insurance.
