My SECOND race boys...Camaro V8 RS 5spd!

Damn me and my dualy max are popular

I was commin' home from a friends, and kinda floored it at a light. Well this older body style camaro (80's) came up beside me and I heard his crappy engine revv. Well I knew it was on baby. I turned down my tunes and We both floor it. He gets the jump (5spd) but as soon as my automagic downshifts the roar of my VQ overwhelms all and I pull from his rear and continue to pass him and gain 1 1/2 cars, then shut it down (car in front). Well he does a ricer fly by, but then slows back down. He wants more. So we go again, he gets the jump again then my VQ screams and I go cruisin by him. Well by this time we reach a right and left turn lane and he turns left and I turn right.

This time I was alone! No big boys to slow me down. My question is, are those older camaro RS's V6's or V8's ? I saw his hand action and so I knew he was 5spd, but hopefully it was a V8 so my kill can be more soothing

I am 1 for 2! My first win!

Older IROC Camaros had three engines available:

2.8 V6 (crap)
305 TBI (5.0L V8, most common)
TPI 350 (245hp Iron headed 'Vette-spawn)

The Z28 was the only one available with the 350, the 305 had 215hp in it's highest form in '91-and-up. I don't know anything about the 2.8 other than the fact that it sucked. There's a good chance that the RS was available with the 305CID V8.

I hope so!

Jeff I hope that wasnt the V6...that wouldn't be a big accomplishement, but if its the big block V8 then woo-hoo.

theres like 6 of those old f-bodies that are RS's that go to my school. 2 of them have flowmasters that sound like V8s and they're are all doggy @$$ V6s. also, i know a kid with a 92' RS and he said that you could have ordered an RS with the 305 but most people that could do that just went ahead with the z-28 instead since the RS is the crappier model. nice kill though!

If it was a V6 then... D'oh!

But he could have mods.. plus I did own him! If we had raced for 20 seconds it would be 5 cars on his azz.

Does anyone know the 0-60 of the V6 5spd RS and the 1/4th ? How bout the V8?

V6, not V8. The RS has a body kit, and is a 5spd. The v8 only comes in a 6spd.

Here's the scoop. The RS was available with a V8 and 5 speed, but like stated above, it was the lame-*** Throttle-Body Injected (TBI) 305 with 180 HP. High 15s would be about right for that combo.

The later IROCs and Z28s (1988-1992) were available with a Tuned-Port Injected 305, or 350 option. Stock, you could only get 305s with a 5-speed option, all 5.7 350s are automagics. The TPI 305 mill is rated at 215 hp stock, and a boatload of torque. The 305/5 speed is good for high 14s with a good driver. The TPI motors respond well to mods...I put one in my '85 Monte SS.

Once the new Z28 rolled out in '93 with the new body style, it is LT1-powered, and all bets are off. 275 HP at their weakest in '93, and graduating to 285 HP with a free-flow dual-cat exhaust system.

Just ask me, your resident Chevy lover!

Thanks for the info

If this RS does 0-60 in 7.9, then with a few mods I'm guessin mid 7's? And my minima is proly doin very low 7's right now, so the fact that I steadily passed him without a problem shows this race was just about right.

Now, if I had already gotten my 5spd conversion, I woulda OWNED him. I will be looking forward to owning alot more cars once I get than damn manual.
..Ohh, the vast difference a simple tranny change would make!

I had a 87 cavalier z24 with that 2.8 v6. That thing was quick. Just stock I could take my friends 93 se max when i had it. they have i think 140 hp and 170 tq. I had the 3spd auto (garbage). It had neck snapping pickup but the top end just wasnt there. If you've seen that post that i think theblue raced a camaro, youll see how quickly that thing jumps off and then just dies (even though that wasnt a v6). Plus the camaro's are too big for the v6.

Even if it was a V8, you still should have beaten him.

I raced one in an 1/8th mile bracket race a while back and he was lucky to run a 10.5! A mid 15 sec car will run about a 10 flat 1/8th.

passed that guy the other day again

What a coincedence

This time it was daylight, arent 5ish..was on my way to the gas station and he was in the straight lane at a red light behind several cars, and I veir off into the right hand turn lane. Well as I was slowly cruisin' by I noticed a purple 80's camaro with the RS emblem. I looked inside and there was that same kid.. we looked at eachother and he had an "owned" look on his face. lol. He knew I was that family sedan that whooped him. Well I just got a look on my face, revved my duals, and was on my way.
