Finally got to race a 3.5 Altima SE!!!!
I was cruising home from my girls place tonight, and find a 2k2 Altima 3.5 SE behind me coming up fairly fast. I didn't know what the hell it was at first, because I am not used to those headlights. So I let it get beside me and notice that it is an Altima, so then I let it pass to get a look at the dual exhaust and 3.5 on the trunk. Then I was like OH BOY, here is my chance to see what they can do. Well, I pace him for a little while and just cruise at about 85mph with him. Then we both take the same split onto this really lit up section of the highway, and I get right beside him, and we slowly lower our speed to around 70. I put it in 3rd, so he so my car lurch a little, hoping that it would give him a signal that i wanted to open them up. Sure enough he knew. Right then he gunned it and so did I. Now this is where I get confused. We were neck and neck all the way through 3rd, and when I slammed it into 4th I got maybe a foot on him, but we were still right there together. He shut it off at 110-115 though and flashed his lights so we called it quits.
Now I have heard what the 5spds Altima SE's are running at the track, but does anyone know what the automatics are running?? I mean it was an awesome race at how close it was, but I really really didn't think I was going to hang, or even inch like I did?? So the only thing I can guess is it was an automatic, or maybe a 5spd owner that couldn't drive???
Well anyway, I do think I need to get some mods though since I did almost get beat by an altima

I killed a 2k2 3.5 SE Altima the other night too. One came flying by me an pretty much cut me off going on an on ramp. Had to be an auto. I follow him on the on ramp and we both punched coming around the corner. Started at the top of 2nd/bottom of third and he a two car lead when we hit it and I slowly walked by him in 4th.

From the looks of the dyno plots posted so far for the new 3.5L, it doesnt seem like these cars are going to be "mph" cars, but rather "ET" cars. Up top, the torque drops off rather quickly, especially when compared to the 3.0L 5th gen. At lower revs, lower speeds, they should be significantly faster. As speeds/revs increase, thier advantage seems to get smaller.
As further evidence, it seems like all the 3.5L's are posting 1/4 mile trap speeds that are less than the 3.0L's.

Altima time slip info...
Phatguy - I remember you came over to Altimas.net and asked us for some time slip info. Here is mine - first time at the track with the Altima (only 2 runs) - this was my 2nd one - first one netted me a 14.9. As you can see I'm getting better.
STOCK Tire Pressure: 33(front) - 32(rear)
Temperature: 55-56F
Track: Capitol Raceway (2nd run) - 300ft above sea level.
60ft. 2.2828
330ft. 6.2414
1/8mile. 9.4675
1000ft. 12.2558
14.5950 @ 96.8150mph
I must admit - traction didn't seem like a problem. I will try to increase the RPMs a bit the next time I go.

I came over to altimas.net? Is that your lil fort or something? I've been a member of that forum longer than you!
Anyways great numbers 14.6 is good and so is your trap! Not bad for a 200HP car. What gear were you in when going across the line? What launch technique did you use? Did you get any wheel hop? You should be able to break 14.3 with practice. Your running about the same as some 2k2 Max Autos. About .3 off some 2k2 6spd Maximas. Keep trying you might break 14.3, 14.4, 14.5950/14.6. You should arrange to race a 6spd Max in your area?

Anyways great numbers! About .3 off some 2k2 6spd Maximas. Keep trying you might break 14.3. You should post a scan of your timeslip. Not that I don't believe you but others might not since you are just posting numbers.

I will post a scan later - there were quite a few Maxima.ORG members there as well that witnessed the run. As far as I can see around my way the .ORG members show NISSAN LOVE rather than animosity towards their siblings.

I've driven 142 in a German car and would never do it again on a public road. I sure thought I was invincible at the time though.
