My Maxima was only 5' away from heaven today

Yep, there it was. Only the 2nd one I've seen in person. In front of me going south on Broad St.--a brand-new silver M3. It was a beauty to say the least. The rear valence was a bit weird, it had 4 dimples in it along the top edge of the bumper. What was so sweet was the rear 1/4's bulge to accomodate the tires. The rear spoiler was one of those small lips in the trunklid, very subtle. Dang the vents in the front fenders are killer!!

Sorry, no Maxima should even be compared to such a car. But all Maxima owners should aspire to get one!! The problem is every car mag and their grandmas say what an incredible value the M3 is at around 50 list. That ensures its scarcity and drives the price into the mid-upper 50's. If one were avail for 47k it'd probably be in my driveway (as a collectors item) and I'd keep driving my Max every day (sh** think about what a fully-loaded 330Ci goes for)

OMFG for me that'd be like being at the gym and having one of the trainers work me over like I were a Phila. Eagle wide receiver or something.....dang one time I was like WTF I'm not on the Eagles!!!! When I was done my knee hurt for a week as did another area of my body (as is common with hockey players) Brutal!

All I can say is YOU DA MAN!! Just don't forget your Maxima roots and tell us how that new M3 rides. I myself have only driven the 1995 and 1996.....I was not kidding that is 50 grand very well spent. Congrats.

I know a guy that bought a 2002 m3 for $57,000 and he only makes about $12 an hour. He lives at home though and makes his parents park in the driveway so he can garage the m3. He won't even drive it on the highway because he's afraid of rocks chipping the front. I think his entire paycheck goes to the car.

6 Speed. I have not driven a stick in 2 years, so it should be fun.

Yeah my friend got the same thing a little while ago (I wrote a post about it before) and there really aren't any words to describe that thing. If those dimples are the ones I think you're talking about, then that's the Park Distance Control (an extra option) sensors. It beeps when you're getting close to an object behind the car.

Obviously M5's cost 20k more than M3's, but who do ya think handles bettuh? Not only dat, 2 guys who workout at my gym have M5's. Like I said, today was the 2nd M3 I've seen. They are more scarce due to VALUE ;which every Max driver unduhstands.

Almost bought a 92 M5 last week. Instead I got my 2K2 Max. Better choice but I LOVE those old M5s. Sure the NEW M3 may handle better than a new M5 flat out, but find a sedan at ANY price that will outhandle or outaccelerate the new M5. There is its value.

You would spend $47k for a car to sit in your driveway?

You guys are wall washed up. M3s are quicker than M5s. Not by much but they are.

I beleive the M3s arequicker off the line, but the M5s have a bit more horase power, so once you get going, they will get the better of the M3.

I have only seen one or two of the new M3s, a few of the older ones, and two M5s.......*****drooool***

I love M5s so much, its my dream car. I saw one in Dallas, my dad kept telling me to watch the road, not the freaking car next to me...

The other one was where I work (the golf course). This was great, because it was parked for a couple of hours right where I drive by in a golf cart about every 5 minutes. I had to pass it twice to realize it was an M5, I finally realized the lower lip has that big opening... It was identical to the one in the Super Star BMW films movie, silver, completely spotless...

GOd I love that car so much.....

But Maximas are certainly a lot for what you pay...

the e46 is a gay design, chris bangle should die. The e46 is nice but it is not what the e36 was. Would i rather have an e36 m3 over an e46m3 ... you better bet your maxima i would.

but then again id rather have an e34 m5. the E39 m5 is crazy and has an amazing amount of Torque at all speeds ( i love how the mirrors fold up when you park the car )

YOU KNOW I HAD TO POST TO THIS.

I'd have to since I only make $5.15/hour

IMHO when a car is as rare as the new M3, it'd be best to keep the miles down, much like you would with a Porsche. The thing would retain alot of its value with low miles. And really the price tag separates the men from the boys. IF it were available for 47k there would be a greater shortage on the M3 than there is now. Bumping the pricetag up to 55+k makes the shortage much smaller. It's like shopping for an apartment in the 3,000 per month vs. 4500 per month range, big difference in the clientele, no difference in apartments except location.

I have seen a few M3s around the DC area, and there are two "new" M5s that live up by my house. I will own an M5 next. I have it planned already. I will keep the max for 4 years, then boon big downpayment and the M5 is in my driveway. I love that car, and I am sorry, 400hp will smoke 330hp with less then 1000lbs of difference. I would also take the 5 over the 3 due to space, have you ever sat in the new 3 series BMWs? I had more room in my civic.

Actually I am freaming. I dont think I could ever spend that much money on a car, it is just unreasonable. Like you will every really get to enjoy that 400hp..... The US needs an Autobaun!!

What you said is true, that few of us will spend that much on a car. The reason is there are so many other things that are higher priority. My rule is you need to make about 3-4 times annually what you spend on a car. Yes, and if you cheat because you want a nicer car it's ok, but the hard line is never spend more on a car than 1/2 your annual salary, EVER. Because to do so is like shooting yourself in the foot. Even with that rule you can always get something nice. Hey, just got out of college? You can still get a car for 22 or so following the double rule, or 11 with the 4x rule. So you've got a workable range, 11-22, plenty of cars in that range. The less you spend on the car though the better.

What you could do is use the idea of an M5 to force you to save for 4 years--then boom, at the last minute take all that money you saved up and spend it on a house. That decision will benefit you for many years!

Why would maxima.org ever compare themselves to M3's??? M3 is comparable to the Skyline. Now I do understand that from time-to-time some org members compare the maxima to the 3 or 5 Series, but less not confuse that with any of the M Series.
