smoothest ride

I am thinking of going to 18" wheels on my 98 i30t and am concerned about my suspension.

I want a smooth ride. I dont want to feel the road at all. What are the best struts i can get that will do that?

thanks

I am not really interested in a stiff ride. I want it to be smooth like a lexus. and quiet as hell.

still recomend the h&r with the agx's?

But are they going to give me a STIFF ride or a SMOOTH ride, if its stiff then i dont want them. As it stands i think the factory ride is too stiff

unless of course im just an idiot and smooth = stiff

If you think stock is stiff, then don't lower your car. you will lose ride quality regardless. H&R's are the smoothest lowering springs but they are still significantly stiffer than stock.

Thats kinda what i thoguht. So i ask you then, should i do to get the ULTIMATE smoothness out of my infiniti?

will the agxs do it? or do i also need new springs?

personally i don't think H&R's are stiff.. but then again.. i am running spring springs now.. so my opinion may be different from yours.. if you do not care about lowering your car.. then just get AGX's .. if you want a lowering with 90% ride quality kept.. then get h&r's.. try to find someone in your area with H&R's and go for a ride with them and see how it feels

You really need to do a search.....

Aftermarket "performance" oriented springs are going to be stiffer then stock , bottom line..........

ive tried searching but everybody wants stiff rides... for racing obviously. I havent found a thread were someone wants to make the car smoother than stock. I am not that interested in handling and all the racing orented stuff. I want it to be smooth and comfortable.

all i really want to do is compensate for the 18" wheels that i want to add. From what i understand the ride gets rougher the bigger wheel/less tire you have. I think the lowered looks cool but i would rather have a comfortable car than a superior handling car. Thats just my preference.

For the price ill probably get the abxs because it has to be better than stock.

Im sorry if im asking to many questions but I cant find a thread with someone who wants to smooth out there ride even if it means degrading the handling

next step.. check the regional forum... post for someone in your area with H&R's to meet up with you so you can check them out and see if you mind the ride or not..

Thanks for the input. One more quickie if you dont mind (sorry if nagging)

Do i need a smaller tire size if i did get the springs? would the tires rub if i were on a bumpy road?

I wasnt really thinking about lowering the car, I think it looks cool but its not something i was interested in. If i end up getting some 18" tires and lower the car with the hr springs does it rub? If so isnt that a ***** on your tires?

only way to get smoother then stock is to blow your shocks so it bounced around like a boat(since you like that kind of thing ) honestly i dont think a spring shock combo is gonna give you what ur lookin for, when ur comparing to lexus your talkin multi link independant suspension types of deals which is completely different then our huge a$$ "uni-bar" in the back. its not just springs and shocks its whole different suspension. if you want a lexus ride, i suggest one thing, buy a lexus, not flaming you, just givin my opinion

Thanks actually. Its what i needed to hear. that should put that question to rest.

thanks everyone for your help

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: smoothest ride

I was going to recommend the Tokico blues with stock springs, but since AGX's are so cheap right now, might as well get them.

I had Sprint springs with Koni: the guy who installed them, said my Max was the stiffest car he's ever been in. 1 month later, i switched to H&R's, the ride is now acceptable

with that all said, i'll never go back to stock b/c the wheel gap is scary

If you get the right size tires there shouldnt be a gap. like 235/40/18.
I cant remember if i already asked that but if i got some 235/40/18 on some 18x8 wheels AND used the h&r springs to lower my car 1.4" would the wheels rub? if so doesnt that degrade the tires fast?

If you want a smooth ride stick with 15's or 16's there is no way you are going to get smoooth with 18's. The sidewall is so small that you cannot get a smooth ride no matter what springs you use. Everyone I know that has 18's slows down for every crack and almost stop if they come to a railroad crossing, that is not performance driving to me just a pain in the a$$.

again nothing solid.. just assumptions thrown out in the air.. amazing most people who share these opinions havn't driven on 18's for long periods of time..

that is no an assumption, I ride on those 18's every time we go to the races which is every second weekend for 2 or 300 miles, so I know how they ride. I also remember how the 15's rode so don't try and tell me 18's will ride soft. If you want performance go ahead but soft and performance ain't compatible.

I don't exactly know the answers to all your questions, but no one here has addressed the ride quality in respects to your tires. Research different manufacturers to get the most comfortable and quietest tire you can afford. I don't know what you have on your Max now, but you might be amazed at the difference just by switching tires. For example, I've heard that Toyo FZ4s are an excellent tire for handling and launches, but very noisy at speeds. Go check out the review sections at tirerack.com

Ive made my decision!!

after reading everyones very helpful posts (thanks guys) I have decided to stick with 16s, Im considering 4 diff 16" wheels right now. I just have to figure out which one would look better on my car.

I read about 30 tire reviews of tirerack.com. And took noise and ride comfort to be my 1st priority. After reading all sorts of reviews i found that the Bridgestone turanza H revo is the quietest tire available. It also has a 50k warrantee and is all season so i dont have to change it come winter (in minnesota snow is a big concern). The bridgestone potenza re950 has higher ratings, but with no consumer feedback i dont trust it.

Thanks for the help guys. Now i have to decide what rim looks the best

Yeah that's what I was gonna tell you but I guess I'm a little late. If you're THAT crazy about smoothness then you'd be better off with 16" or better yet 15" rims (that's if you're THAT crazy about smoothness). And some nice quiet tires like others said. Maybe you can get AGX's and ride on the softest settings but I don't know if that would be better than stock or no.

I thought about 15s... for about 1 sec before i laughed it off. There smaller than stock.

I ordered my rims just now. I chose the Enkei rsf-2s. Heres a pic

It was them or the konig caffienes, but i thought those looked a little classier

Good decision,

Wheels and tire size is at least as important to ride quality as springs / struts (if not more). 16s are a good choice because there are mant different tire choices, and the tires cost quite a bit less (than 17 or 18s) so you can get better wheel package for the same price.

And don't listen to sprintmax cause he's got a fat a$$.

I'm not sure what size tire you were looking at for the RE950, but I looked at the 17inch size and there was LOTS of feedback...virtually all positive. I would assume feedback on the 16s would be similar. I just ordered 235/45/17s in the RE950s due to their awesome reviews. Also try a search on the org, there's lots of good comments on them here to.
