Cant decide what to get

I know there has been a lot of people asking this kind of thing lately but since there is a lot of you on here that I value your opinion I thought maybe you could help. I am planning on buying some 16" 5 Spoke rims from the 00-01 Maxima. However, I have always been more of a go than show person so I dont know whether to get the rims or use the money on performance mods. I have about $750 that I have put away for my car. I am buying the rims for $360 and ill have to buy some tires also. I am looking at the Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 tires. Are those any good? Are those Z rated tires? It says on the site that they are Z then it says V and in the rating it says WR speed rated. Sorry dont know much about tires, like i said ive always been go before show. Well the other thing I could do is not get the rims and get Dons VB mod or NOS or something like that. If I got NOS I would also get dons VB mod and just pay a little extra than the $750 that I have already put away. What do you guys think I should do? Oh yeah I have a 97 Black Maxima with the mods listed in my sig. Thanks for your help and sorry about the repetitive question. Take Care

They are available in 16" also. If you go to tirerack.com and type in 2000 Nissan Maxima SE the tire size will come up as 215/55/16 and there is a choice for 17" as well. I will be dropping it if I get rims. I was going to get Eibach springs and tokico shocks. Is that a bad set?
What about the VB mod and NOS, should I go for that? Or should I stick with the rims and drop for now? Let me know what your opinions are. Thanks

if you go for the drop, definetely get KYB AGX's.. I have them and while they're a little harsh over bumpy roads, theyre the best choice for struts right now.

Eibach's are also not your best choice, if you want around 1.3 - 1.4 inch drop, go with H&R's, they are pretty close to stock ride quality I hear. Eibachs have the same drop but are harsher..

Also I think you should get 17's if you upgrade your wheels, whats the point of getting the same size wheels as a stock SE? 17's look better than 16's IMO.

Im not going for the big aftermarket rim look, my tires are nearly bald and I was just going with the 16" instead of my stock 15" steelies. Like I said im go before show and I cant afford super light weight 17's or else I would get them for sure. I am all of a sudden seriously considering the NOS. I once said that I would never do it but I guess im just in the need for speed now.lol About the drop, I dont want a huge drop I still want it to look pretty stock with a little less wheel gap! Thanks for your input I appreciate it. Take Care

Re: Cant decide what to get

The Kumhos are W rated, but it doesn't really matter because all Z,V, and W rated tires are way more capable than our cars can push out of them.

My advice to you would be to buy a set of aftermarket 16" wheels, solely for the purpose that you would be able to pick you own tires. If you can get the 16" 5th Gen wheels without tires, you might as well get those because you obviously like the style.

Even if it means buying a cheap set of wheels (notice I said, cheap not heavy - make sure you don't buy anything exceptionally heavy like Momo arrows), you will be able to afford a nice set of tires, which of course is very important in traction. Look into the Pirelli P-Zeros or Yokohama Paradas, both apparently very grippy tires.

As for the wheel gap you shouldn't worry much because they are just 16"s. Look at any stock 4th Gen SE and you will get an idea of how it looks. 17"+ creates the deception that there is more wheel gap, but on a 16" you should be fine. However if you do plan to upgrade your suspension I suggest KYB AGXs and either stock, Sprint, or Eibach springs.

But you must also remember that if you want better handling there's alot more you can do with the money. One of course being the struts/springs I mention before, as well as the FSTB and RSB. However with any of your choices I'm sure you will feel a large improvment over the stock suspension. Good luck with whatever you get.

How much do the 2k1 SE 5-Spoke rims weigh? I was thinking of getting them but I need to know weight. Thanks.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Cant decide what to get

What Gen are we talking about? If it is a 5th gan, then your only choice for now is the Tokiko shock or the standard KYB's. The AGX's haven't come out yet unless you want to facbicate a bit with the current model. However, you still have several choices for springs? Today I just purchased a complete set of Tokiko Struts/shocks and Eibach springs. The Eibachs do not lower your car as much as the H&R's and the ride is the same with both. The handling is a bit tighter and the ride a little bit firmer. I did not notice any degradation in the ride quality and it actually feels nicer that the stock SE shocks.
