NOS or ECU

I have a little dillema. Should I get NOS, or an ECU? THey both are practically the same price and they both make you go faster. People who have had both, please advise!!! Thanks alot.

I disagree, with the nos you will see a 40-80 hp increase in your horsepower. With the ECU you may see a small increase in low-end torque or small powerband differences. The ECU costs about $650 dollars, and unless you have it custom tuned to your car the benefits are minimal. Also, the ECU will probably be tuned for an N/A maxima.. Getting nitrous, a supercharger, or turbo later on would negate the effects of the ECU and maybe even become harmful. You'd have to reprogram it for forced induction if that were the route you planned to go.

if it's a '97+ maxima, then it's nos - no brainer. There's no great ecu upgrade for these (though a few would argue for the gforce for '97, but I wouldn't). Pre-'97, I'd still probably get the nitrous.

SAME PRICE? Get the nitrous-oxide, you're getting a steal on it.

I totally agree with Dennis here. Couldn't of said it better myself.

how exactly are they the same price... I picked up my basic zex kit for $350 and by the time I'm done with a safe install the bill will be over $1000.

as Dennis said before..

PROS:

NOS

Bigger increase in HP over ECU
Easier to tune for better results

ECU

Cheaper in the long run
don't have to refil the ECU

CONS:

NOS
After a Safe setup for 50 hp it will cost you $800 total
You will have to pay to refil the bottle constantly and can get expensive

ECU
Small gain compared to NOS
If you want to get a Supercharger, Turbo or NOS later on the ECU is useless to you.. you have to sell it or pay the same amount of money again to have it reprogramed for that application.

its up to you what you want to do and which road you want to take.. the paths have been set for you now..

If you paid or are going to pay $650 for a zex kit install your getting ripped off. My perf. shop does it for $150, says it's a 2.5 hour install.

I see, he's going the full route-I didn't realize this-which is not needed for all NO2 addes. So, to advise on the original point, someone could easily do a more minimal NO2 addition (<75HP shot) for not much more than a ECU.

well you can run 50 shot on no gauges easily.. so i bought my NOS Kit for $375 .. so technically you could say i had a 50 hp increase for $375 .. but i tell you this.. i would have probably blown my engine with 100 Shot if my FP gauge wasn't working.. i was at 100 PSI Fuel Pressure thank God for the FP Gauge.. thats when i knew i needed to change my fuel jet to get the pressure down to 85 PSI

Go with N20 all the way. Like it has been said a couple of times here, with an ECU you have to have it "custom" programmed to have any real gains and if you go on to boost later, it has to be re done again. The only advantage is the no refill, but the way I see it is if you can't afford to refill--don't hit the button.

Go with nitrous... leave the all motor route to the select few hehehe. Just kidding, if my car didnt have 122K on it I'd be getting nitrous too.

On the website it says "Use only premium-grade pump gas (92+ octane) or unleaded racing fuel." They only go up to 91 here in socal. Im I just paranoid or will it run perfectly safe with 91 octane?

i would only run it with 93 to prevent detonating.. or if you do take a chance with 91 .. no matter how small the shot i would run colder plugs right away..
