Drag time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im going to the Renolds drag strip saturday in Georgia at 7:30p (I think well I dont know were it is Im following my friends) this is the first time I will drag the max . I will be racing some of my friends and i need some advice. I did use search and I found that I should cut off my a/c, take out the spare and any unnessesary weight and to launch, hold the rev at about 1500-1600rpms. Any other suggestions?? Also I will be racing a 300zx N/A, a Integra Type R, a crx with a gsr swap, and a crx with none v-tech integra swap. The crx's should be no contest.... I hope. They said they would blow there cars up before I beat them (I been talkin alot of *@#$&) I know the Type R may beat me it has an cai intake and catback but what about the N/A 300zx the only mod it has is a light flywheel? Finally what do you think my time will be for my first drag. I have a 5sp a JWT intake and muffler.

I don't know much about launching VQ's but that sounds about right. You should be in the low 15's if you're a manual. NA 300ZX's are pretty heavy. They aren't all that, it'll be close.

My suggestions:
-Keep the gas tank as empty as possible. When I go to the track, I usually have a little less than a quarter of a tank (be aware of where the closest gas station is).
-I launch at around 3K and "feather" the clutch a little. If you dump it, you'll get too much spin, or the dreaded wheel hop. 15-16K is too low and you'll bog.
-I've found out it doesn't make any difference if my spare is in or out but it won't hurt to remove it. Clean out any other items from your trunk.
-Open your hood and let the car cool down when you arrive at the track and between runs.
-Front tire pressure should be lowered to around 21psi.
-Don't wait for the green light. Leave on the third yellow light.

Do you know if any of the other people you're racing have any experience? Your reaction time is going to make all the difference in the world when your running head-to-head.
Try and do a few practice runs by yourself to perfect your launch techniques.
And....HAVE FUN!

Terry

I think you are severely underestimating the performance of those Hondas. If they know how to launch, you're toast. Their topend is significantly better than yours since you don't have many mods. There's a 90 Civic hatch at my track that runs the non-VTEC B18. The car is pretty much gutted, has all the boltons, and runs slicks. He's running 13.0@103mph.

Firstime at the track you'll probably run high 15's or maybe even a 16 to start. I've noticed the 5 speed guys struggling on there launches and shifting. If you're a decent driver, you should hit mid to low 15's. Just keep calm and let loose when you see that third yellow light up and you should do ok for your first time at the track.

Considering that he has a few mods, I would think he could hit 14's?? Maybe I just got lucky on my first two track outings??

They Integra Type R has an intake? I heard that the Integra GSR has an intake thats specially made for it and by changing it, it will lose power? Is this really true? Just hope that the driver is an idiot and cant shift... Thats how my stock 95 auto max beat one.
