General question about oil

does anybody have any experience using those so called high mileage engine oils? I was wondering what is supposed to be so special about the oil and what is it that an engine with high miles needs that isn't contained in the regular oil? I just had my 215,000 mile oil change and I briefly considered using this stuff but being the bargain shopper I am, I opted for what ever was cheapest

They add some stuff to help seal gaps and worn seals I guess... I'd say if you are already at 215k and have no problems, then why change what you've been doing? Cheap oil isn't necessarily bad, you just need to change it more regularily.

I'm still an old fashioned person when it comes to oil changes, and I don't trust high mileage oils. It's psychological I suppose, why replace the regular <4k mile changes with +10k mile changes? The <4k oil changes worked fine for decades.

I prefer to get the cheaper oil and change it more regularly. The cheaper oil isn't bad, but I can put in cleaner oil more often. I like that.

i think me meant high mileage on the car/engine...oils that claims that help the high mileage engines.
not high mileage drain interval oil...IE Amsoil, Redline..etc etc.

I'm kinda the same way too. I can't leave the same oil in a car for 10 to 20,000 some odd miles. It just doesn't sit right with me, even with the overwhelming evidence.

It's ridiculously hard to break those old habits.

I agree with whoever above posted that what you've been doing has been fine, so why change. Those oils don't have a track record yet, why switch now?
