S2000 can't hang

I was riding in MAX2000JP's car tonight and we both had our girlfriends with us...so a total of 4 people in his car...anyway we make a left turn onto a divided 4 lane highway...and as we're turing left, I see a red S2000 turning right to go the same way...he gets almost sideways coming out of the turn....so I immedaitely tell Jason to punch it...he does...and the S2000 gains absolutely no ground on us. I'm like wow...he must not have been on it.

So then there's a red light up ahead....and the S2000 pulls up next to us with a middle aged guy driving it....the light turns green...and both cars take off....it's dead even through the first half of first gear....and then the maxima starts pulling...and kept pulling on the S2K all the way to 90mph when we had about 2 cars on him and both shut it down.

We couldn't believe it....I know those things IF driven right can be faster...but in this case....the max got the kill!

Interesting, from what I hear those things are fast. But, like you said, maybe he didn't know how to drive it. Good kill, specially with all the extra weight in the car...

yea...they are pretty quick if driven right...you really have to wind them ALL THE WAY OUT to get the power out of them....I've drivin my friend's..and i had to dump the clutch over 5 grand to get any kind of decent launch out of the thing. This guy was probably short-shifting it a little bit...and it killed him....he also didn't launch very hard.

Good kill, but the dude in the S2000 needs to learn how to drive big time.

Won't that extra weight help lower the Maxima and improve air flow? At the least, it would improve tire grip. The next big thing - all your friends and a trunk full of spare tires and coolers full of beer to run at the track.

Seriously, I had some friends drive from the Bay Area to L.A. years ago in a Datsun B210 - all big beefy guys, too. The car got almost 50mpg! Normal was around 35. Lotsa rolling momentum, I guess ....

Well it may or may not be the driver skills here but I definitely know it has something to do with the S2K's extremely low torque (153?)
I raced one before from a light and he couldn't even pull even with me but his engine was sure screamin'. Oh well I think thats more of a track car than drag car.:

My friend drops off his S2000 at my place to store in my garage, whenever he's traveling. He lets me do as I please with it, cause it's a lease. Dude, you need to get that car up into the 7K RPM (& ride it to 9K) range to get it to move... BUT WHEN THERE IT MOOOOVES! snaps your neck back, 'n all. Below that it pulls SLOWER than a Civic - no bull. A good launch in that car would be @ 4-5K RPM (or more!). That's how the car mags probably get the 5.2sec 0-60 times. The car is all about traction, though! It's almost impossible to get the wheels to spin, and even when you do, it's just a brief "chirp". Handling is also superb. We were supposed to hit the track last week & race each other, but our plans got f-ed up. I suspect I can take him, cause he doesn't drive his car as well (hard ) as I do. We'll see. I'll post the kill soon

Xcellent kill man!

Later,
G

One of my buddies at work has a 2002 S2K... I've driven it several times and it's a *BLAST*... handles soooooo much better than the Max (with Eibach/Koni/Potenzas). Anyway...

We decided to race on the freeway a couple times, and here's the deal:

From about 50, we're both in 3rd gear, we punch it.
I actually pulled on him just a tad before we both got to about 80 or so... I'm thinking "holy sh|t! That little lawnmower engine is a joke! I've got him! I will teach this kid a lesson he will not soon forget... MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!"
Then that mother-F|_|CKING vtec kicks in
He starts to catch back up, and by the time I have to shift into 4th, he's gone.

This is with pop intake/Y-pipe only. S2K is stock.
