Raced a Corvette tonite!

I was at a stop light on a big intersection with a friend. A corvette pulls beside me with a chick and her boyfriend blasting 'love is crazy' by Ja-rule. It was the chick driving . It was an early 90's vette, with a spoiler. She revved her engine so we revved back.

Well I wasn't plannin' on racing becuase I assumed that i'd get spanked.

Light turns green and we both very slowly go forward then all of a sudden she guns it. Well she takes off. I lucky was in 1st gear manually and gunned it. Well I was fairly high in revvs (2.5k) so we got a good launch. This is where it gets good. To my surprise I kept up with her!! I started edging up to her tail and stayed with her back end all the way up till about 60mph (it was a 30mph zone with alot of twisties.) I shut it down and flashed my brights 2 times. She slowed down and her boyfriend gave me a "peace" sign which I guess meant good job.

What do you guys think?? I am almost positive it was automatic becuase it was a chick driving and I freakn was right with her!

During the twisties her car really took them well. Better than my maxima definatally. I was impressed..the corvette has very nice cornering.

I am very pleased with my Minima to say the least. I kept up with Chevy's premier sports car.

I know the late 80s' Corvette Z51 runs ~14.7 in the 1/4 mile. Combine that with an automatic transmission, and possibly some engine wear and tare over the years and I can easily see a modded Maxima holding its' own with one. Good Job.

Thanks.

Well I am pretty sure it was early 90's ZR-1 which would be much more of a competition.

Man I tell ya if I had gunned it first he would be seeing MY duals

Either way it's a Japanese family car staying even with an American big block sports icon...that just makes me feel tingly inside.

It wasn't a ZR-1. They have 405HP, and a Lotus engineered Mercury Marine V-8 block. You ran a 350 with a woman driving (flame on!).

Cars haven't had "big blocks" since 1976. All Vettes since 74 have small blocks.

Well well it's Mr. Anti-maxima just playin man.

Yea those ZR-1's run 4-5's 0-60 so I am guessing no

They have 350HP ?? Who cares bro...it's a VETTE, and my maxima is as fast as it

And about the woman comment if it was a manual i'd agree with you, but it doesn't take alot of brains/brawn to push your leg down on an automagic.

Good job man. I was following my friend today in his dad's 01 Vette, and its really quick. I was pretty much just chasing him the whole way, but it was fun.

Its not an early 90s 'vette either. My friend has a 91 with Automatic transmission and he ran a 14.1 stock. You probably ran a mid to late 80s model. I think in the mid to early 90s they went from 250hp to 300

No, no , no. I'm not anti-anything. Well probably anti-ford.....but isn't everyone?

The 87-96 vettes had anywhere from 225 HP to 330, depending on year. I had an 84, and although it had the crappy "cross-fire injection", and the crappy 4+3 transmission, I couldn't believe how well the car handled. With 130K on the clock, it would stick to the road like glue. They handle VERY well. Go check one some afternoon when the weather is nice. you might want to move over to the DARK SIDE!

I basicaly walked a 87-96 Vette, it was a auto too. The guy thought he was a real big shot racing around the vette with used dealer plates . He got a little sideways off the launch and I stormed by him like no other! The my car went into limp mode shortly after

I beat a vet the other night and when we pulled over to talk it was a really nice older guy. He said the vette was a 1980 with 220hp. He said that he is selling it though and is buying a 63 vette with 340hp. I beat him by about 1-2 cars to around 80. Nice race by the way, Take Care

I thought they were engineered by Yamaha. I'm almost positive they were... I think Lotus might have played another role in that car, but not the engine. I'm 99% sure.

last saturday night i was coming home from a friends house. it was about 2am, i pulled up to a redlight (1 lane each way with a right turning lane) anyway. there is a civic behind me, gets next to me, revs and takes a right. behind that there is an 80's vette convertable. well, he just sits there next to me, so i figure hes gonna rip right past me when the light turns green. i rev to 3500 and time the light perfectly. light turns green, we're both off for about 200ft and i notice hes next to me. i decide i'm not going to kill him by forcing him into a stone wall, so i jam the brakes and let 'em in. i was impressed i kept up with a vette.

little OT for this thread:
on wednesday afternoon, jdwyer came to visit. we had a little run on the highway... from i guess it was about 50-90ish. we were even for about 3 seconds and he started to walk past me.
now, my question is this. he has CAI, Ypipe (with hole and possibly restricted flex section), greddy catback, centerforce clutch, new tranny, lightened stock flywheel. i have home made popcharger (MAFS adapter, K&N cone), advanced timing, TB coolant bypass and UDP. is it logical that he walked me or is there something wrong with my car?

HELL YEAH it's logical he walked you considering both your respective mods. There would be something wrong with HIS car if he didn't.

I've raced 2 vettes, a 76 or so stingray and an 84 Crossfire Injection. They both got destroyed. I've never had the opportunity to race a newer or older one, and I'm sure if I did the results would NOT be as pretty.

Nope. sterling00max is right. You're thinking of the Taurus SHO, SteVTEC.

If it was a 92+ Corvette, I've got money that says she messed up the launch or was scared to drive it. Those are fast cars. It's quite amusing to see people say things about Camaros and Stangs, any relatively current 'vette is a different story. The 92 had 300hp and weighed about 3300lbs. My 2k2 is 255hp and 3100lbs. I'm sure my car wouldn't stand a chance, all things being equal.

Sorry, but Lotus engineered the fuel injection, and Mercury Marine supplied the block. But don't take my word for it, search for LT5 Corvette and read about it.......

Yamaha was the FORD SHO.......

I would think that any C4 and C5 vette could toast us. Didn't the C4 debut in '84?? That 1st C4 didn't have the greatest of horse power, but torque was stupendous. Like 340 ft lbs. I used to compare my old MKIII Supra turbo to it. That vette would develope more torque at just above idle, 270 ft lbs at 1000 rpm, than my 3 liter turbo did at PEAK!

The "anniversary edition" had the same engine as the others, a 300hp LT1. The same engine ran from 92-96, although there was a LT4 option in 96, rated at 330hp (but very underrated). Its good for a 1/4 of around 13.4-13.7, depending on driver and transmission.

The combination of big torque, positraction, and fat tires will make a Vette tough to beat. An automatic is still a good launch.
My Maxima is a 6sp and so is Vette and while the Max is fast for a sedan, the Vette is probably in the mid to high 12s.

If your looking at early 90's corvettes then look to Callaway. What I wouldnt give for a 1991 Twin Turbo Vette. Who doesnt love numbers like this

Top Speed: 191.5mph

0 - 60mph in 4.44 seconds

0 - 100mph in 10.50 seconds

1/4 mile time: 12.77 @ 113.1mph
