Warranties and labor rates

When I replaced my trani and put in the new clutch in July, I went to a good outside (non-dealer) shop. 9 months later my throwout bearing went bad and I had to get the trani pulled again; another 6 bills I've gotten some good rapport with the parts guys at both Vallejo and Hilltop Nissan, so when I got my new T.O. bearing the guy told me to bring the old one back for him to inspect. Well, the darn thing just went bad, no sign of misalignment or misuse (like riding the clutch). He showed it to his service manager who agreed it was defective. Anyway, if I'd have had the installation done there, the labor for replacing the part would have been FREE! The original job would have cost more ($95/hr for shop labor in California) but Nissan would have backed it up. Because they didn't do the install, no coverage I asked "what about the aftermarket parts?" and they said they are willing to put those in for people. No hard time about the mods. In fact, at both dealerships, they think it's cool. One parts guy is trying to get me a Nissan racing sticker, and at the other shop they run a race car. It never hurts to make friends; when I got my trani, they knocked $500 of the list price.

All dealerships aren't retarted about performance parts.
