Ordered my new wheels and tires.
Well I bit the bullet and ordered my wheels & tires yesterday from Wheel & Tire Zone a local Toronto shop. http://www.wheelandtirezone.com/
My wheels are Konig Imagine 18x8.5
http://www.konigwheels.com/catalog_p...ryName=Imagine
My Tires are Yokohama AVS S1's
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/yokohama/yo_s1z.jsp
I should be able to pick them after I arrive from Chicago. Can't wait to see the difference they make over the stock ****stones.
Now I have to hurry up and get my suspension and brakes before my track day on May 12.

Can't wait to show off my Volks either
Nice choices. You will definitely like the Yokohamas, I had similar tires on my stock 95 SE rims and they had terrific grip. BTW, which Konigs did you get the black pearl or the silver? Either would look nice.

Good decision, car will look much nicer with the new rims.

That's too simplistic. An aftermarket wheel is usually a higher quality than factory, ie lighter all things being equal. An SSR 18x8 is 1lb heavier than a 17x8. IMHO 4 lbs of unsprung weight is not gonna make much difference on a 255 hp car. You'd have to be a bit loopy to have a 2k2 Maxima and get 17" aftermarket rims because it comes with them already. How funny, someone says they got new rims and you say sweet but it'll slow you down?

If someone gets a new car, you could say, "Congrats, nice car, but you have car payments now." You could leave the latter out or say nothing at all. That's just being polite.
Hey, my 18's weigh at least 3.5 lbs more EACH than the stock 16x6.5. They look way better than the stock SE rims. Many people like the look of 18's, which is alot simpler than physics.

. I know 18's would have looked better but my personal preference is weight. If you have aftermarket 18's, SWEET! They must look awesome. If you have aftermarket 15's, SWEET! They must be very light. If they aren't either of the two then you're screwed though.

I got the Silver, I was going to get the Opal because they look cool in the pictures, but I am not sure how it would look on my car. I am already taking a risk with them as I have only seen a picture. I hope I am happy with my choice when they finally get mounted.
Guys let's not get in a silly debate about words, The board is littered enough with all the TL/CL crap, and yes I know I am a small part of that.
I wasn't offened by the comment, but I laughed with the blanket statement of "it will slow your car down."
I wanted after market rims for the width, because I wanted to mount a 245 tire on 8.5" wide rim. 17 or 18 wasn't a concern other then for looks.
I'll post pics when they get mounted and I'll take the pictures of the shop owners G35 with the same size BBS wheels and Dunlop tires. Funny, the owner got rid of his CL-S as soon as he drove the G35, he says no comparison, ooops did I just start something again!*&

IMHO the 2k2 needs 18's to set it apart as most people do not see any difference with that and the 2000, I mean people who don't follow cars and the subtle differences. Looks do matter and those Konigs should look nice.
FYI to the weight conscious, BBS rims tend to be heavy, but aren't they known as one of the best? And their weight doesn't stop thieves either.

, $3500 just for wheels u can buy a crx for that
It's just a lease has nothing to do with it...It's just a Maxima too which is why I didn't get the Enkei Aegis which were $1000/wheel.
It's not like they can't be used on another car or be sold to another Maxima owner. If I get the G35 it will probably fit on that car.
Everything I put on my car will be bolt on, for the purpose of resale as I am not keeping this car for very long. I don't mind taking a hit, it's not an investment it's a hobby.

How long will it last, well let's put it this way, I've budgeted for another two sets this summer. Hope fully I won't need the 3rd set, ouch.
It's all the track time I will hopefully be doing that will kill the tires.
some 4th gen with the wheels I bought, doesn't look good with that car and or colour to me, hope it looks better on mine.

less weight of the wheel = faster of the car? don't think so. rotational kinetic energy also need to be considered. large propotion of the weight distributed at the end radius of the rim, rotational energy definitely plays an important role here. However, no doubt that the 17" or 18" won't make any difference on a 260 hp car.
Anyway, very nice rims and look very good on the car. congrat!

Those tires are not good at all when you consider what you pay for them. Much better off with these http://www.tirerack.com/tires/bridgestone/bs_s03.jsp
Those wheels look good on the 5th gen, but those tires look way too low profile. It almost looks like the car is riding on the rims.
My experience is this with larger rims. I use to have a sweet set of anthracite 17' Team Loco 142s on my black Max. The combo looked awesome. The combo weighed 46lbs vs the stock 15' at 40lb. The car felt slower off the line and tire spin into 2nd became worse and worse. There were times when I'd hit 2nd on 50 degree night and loose all traction. Launching off the line was much harder with the 235/45s HTR IIs vs the 215/60 RSAs. How is this possible? Because low profile tires sucks for straight line acceleration. The contact patch of a low profile tire is not good for straight line acceleration, instead it's designed for lateral G's. For the first year, all I cared about was the sweet looks. Then I took my car to the track and ran with the 17s and then 15s, on two occasions. On average, with the same 60', my car was .2-.3 and 1-2mph slower with the 17s vs the 15s. This got me thinking. Why do I want to ride on rims that slow me down, make the car ride worse, and brake worse? I'm pumping all this money into engine mods that gain a tenth or two here and there yet I'm holding my car back with the larger wheels. I also started to get sick and tired of changing out wheels to go to the track. That's when I decidied to go with a set of lightweight 16" Kosei K1s with 215/55 tires. This setup weighs about 38lbs therefore the overall performance is very close to that of the 15" combo. My straightline performance improved significantly as did the ride. I did give up some cornering though. The handling loss is mostly related to the fact that I'm now running on all-season performance vs summer tires on the 17s. I like the fact that I can go to the track without pulling wheels. What you see on the track and what you see on the street. With the same mods and conditions, I ran a best of 14.73@94mph with the 16s vs a best of 15.1@92mph with the 17s.
I will be the first to admit that larger rims (17/18") look good on the Maxima, but for me I'm more concerned about overall performance than the "bling bling". Sure, I've only got 16s, but the design of the K1 is always mistaken for a larger rim. I remember reading an article in Car & Driver about the move in the industry towards larger rims. Both BMW and the head of the Viper program both admitted that the cars, assumingthey still use summer tires, are faster, brake better, and handle better with smaller rims, but the majority of the buying public is more concerned about looks than performance. The Viper manager said he doubts many people would buy a Viper if it came with 16" rims even though the car would be a better performer overall. On the current Dodge Ram, there is a optional 20" wheel package which requires a special suspension to compensate for the adding unsprung weight. That says a lot about what people want and what performance means to them.

Look what we did to Dave. Dave, Sam is going to a road course May 19th, he wants the car to handle as good as it can there.

you're gonna have to get springs/shocks, especially if you wanna get the most out of the road courses
also, a Rear Sway Bar should be your next suspension mod, possibly even before the springs/shocks as, from what i've read, that makes quite a bit of a difference
while you're at it with the bolt-ons, pick up albert's frankencar intake that he's selling..something like $100US
question, did you think about Michelin Pilot Sports when choosing tires?
cheers

I will say this though, how many serious road course racers run 17+" wheels
The road course racing I've seen and the racers I personally know run 15-16" wheels on their Del Sol/Si, Miatas, SHOs, Contour SVTs, Vettes, Stangs, F-Bodies, and such. Larger and heavier wheels on a road course will still slow you down and potentially make handling worse. A Maxima running DOT race tires on a set of 16" Max rims should easily out handle, out brake, and out accelerate a Maxima with 18" rims and ultra high performance summer tires
Dave
true, but the keep point is RACING, I am not racing, just going out to have fun (lapping), if I was racing I would do it in a Maxima.
Smaller wheels are more desireable but it's not going to make that big of a difference, forure if I was driving a Miata...
Dennis, it's May 12.
Neal, I'm looking into Springs, Shocks and a Rear Sway Bar, and better brakes. I think the biggest problem I will have will be the brakes. I'm extremely hard on brakes, but I'll have to take it easy on the Maxima after all it is a lease right Dennis!

Larger and heavier wheels on a road course will still slow you down and potentially make handling worse. A Maxima running DOT race tires on a set of 16" Max rims should easily out handle, out brake, and out accelerate a Maxima with 18" rims and ultra high performance summer tires

I'm extremely hard on brakes, but I'll have to take it easy on the Maxima after all it is a lease right Dennis!

in regards to brakes, a quick 'mod' you can do, that's on the cheap, is put some semi-metallic brake pads while using the stock rotors. this should cure some brake-fade that you'll experience with the stock pads ... are you looking for stock-size replacement rotors or a true 'big-brake' kit
i've got powerslot rotors with metal master pads on my integra and those things stop the car as if an anchor has been thrown out back (no ABS on the car) ... plus, they don't fade when abused
Not a big brake kit, but probably Rotors, Pads and Lines, kinda like the package on EatRicezone.com. I want to keep things to inexpensive (relative) boltons as I honestly don't think I will be satisfied with the handling of the Maxima once I am done. Sure it will be better but, well...ummm... I guess what I am saying is I want my 300ZX TT back even though the brakes sucked on that car, replaced them under warranty every month.
Geez I tought I grew out of this ****, now I am back...man I should be putting my money into a house not a car. I am going to have to avoid Infiniti Dealers when the 6spd G35 Sedan comes out....
Has anyone bought from EatRiceZone? I'm always weary of buying from small private companies online. No offence to the owner...

MaxRPM got his rims for $383 Canadian Pesos
divide $383 by 1.15 (the 15% sales tax here in Ontario) and then divide that number by 1.65 (65% exchange rate guess) and you get around $202 US greenbacks ...which is around what you paid
cheers

Dave beat me to it, your times are not going to be great so leave your stock ones in the front to get better times.

I've got 245/40 YR 18 Bridgestone Potenze S0-3 Pole Postions. I love them. Best tires i have ever experienced in any car. My old Dunlop Sport 8000 were really good too, but after having these tires i don't think i would ever have something else.
Drive a car with them, i swear you will be amazed.
